The village festival of the Bassa Mantovana

In San Giovanni del Dosso, a small municipality in the Bassa Mantovana region, near Mantua, the beginning of July coincides with the Fiera paesana (Village Fair), the most anticipated event of the local summer. Four evenings of celebration in the multi-purpose hall of Piazzale Donatori di Sangue, in a covered and air-conditioned stand that allows you to enjoy the fair in comfort even on warm summer evenings.

Mantuan cuisine takes centre stage

The heart of the fair is the gastronomy. The stand opens every evening from 7:00 PM and offers the great classics of Mantuan cuisine: risotto, garganelli with ragù, grilled pork, braised meat, fried fish, and to finish, sbrisolona, the symbolic dessert of the region, along with lemon cake. It's the genuine and abundant cuisine of village festivals, made with generous portions and authentic flavours.

Four evenings, four shows

Each evening has its own musical program. Saturday starts with a DJ and dancers; Sunday features dialect comedy, a tradition deeply felt in the Bassa region; Monday brings the Branco Band; Tuesday closes with the Mara Cavalli orchestra, for lovers of liscio music and dancing. A mix of genres designed to engage all generations from the village and surrounding areas.

A Pro Loco festival

The Fiera paesana di San Giovanni del Dosso is organized by the Pro Loco Dossese, the result of the association's volunteer work. More than just a food event, it is the moment when the community of this corner of the Bassa Mantovana comes together, between a traditional dish and an evening of dancing, renewing its bond with its roots and the simple pleasure of being together.
