Ostrich takes center stage at the table

Among the many gastronomic sagre in the province of Mantua, the one in Governolo, a hamlet of the Municipality of Roncoferraro, stands out for its original choice: to focus on ostrich meat. An unusual specialty for Mantuan tradition, which has given this sagra a distinct identity and a loyal following.

The event takes place at the W. Negri Events Park, on Via Mazzini, and spans two weeks in June. Every evening, the food stands open from 7:30 PM, offering ostrich-based dishes alongside local specialties. Around the food area, the space comes alive with stalls and markets, while the large green area and the children's zone with inflatables and rides make the sagra suitable for the whole family.

A show every evening

The real strong point of the Sagra dello Struzzo is its rich and completely free entertainment program. Concerts, musical performances, dialect comedies, tributes, and variety shows alternate on stage night after night, with performances generally starting at 9:30 PM. A formula that makes the sagra not only an event for curious gourmets but also an evening meeting point for the entire community.

Governolo, Roncoferraro, and the Mincio

Governolo is located in a picturesque spot where the Mincio River meets the Po River, in a territory rich in history and water. The sagra is organized by US Governolese "I Pirati Del Mincio" and Governolo Eventi, two local organizations that mobilize volunteers and energy each year to bring one of the area's longest-running summer events to life, in the heart of the province of Mantua, in Lombardy.
