The Verdins Firefighters' Festival

The Feuerwehrfest Verdins/Schenna is the annual celebration of the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Verdins, the volunteer fire brigade of the small village of Verdins, located above Schenna in the province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Following the traditions of the mountain villages in the Merano area, the community comes together to support its fire brigade for a weekend of popular festivities that blend solidarity, conviviality, and local culture.

A weekend in the heart of the village

The festival takes place in the Verdins village square (Dorfplatz), the hub of local community life. For two days, the entire village comes alive with food stalls, a music stage, and dedicated areas for children. It is an occasion where locals, vacationers, and visitors to the Merano area gather in a warm and informal atmosphere.

Music, gastronomy, and family

The Feuerwehrfest program revolves around elements that make it a classic South Tyrolean Volksfest:

• Live music, with bands and groups providing entertainment throughout the evenings and social gatherings;
• Local culinary specialties, featuring traditional South Tyrolean dishes and products served by the volunteers;
• a bouncy castle (Hüpfburg) and activities designed for children, making the festival suitable for the whole family;
• the traditional refreshment service managed by the firefighters, who for a day also become, with a touch of irony, excellent "thirst-quenchers".

A tradition in service of the community

Like all volunteer fire brigade festivals in South Tyrol, the Verdins event serves a purpose beyond simple entertainment: the proceeds support the activities of the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Verdins, which is always ready to intervene in case of fires, accidents, and emergencies to protect the mountain population. Participating in the festival is a way to recognize and support the irreplaceable role of these volunteers.
