The house of the Little Ancient World
In Oria di Valsolda, on the Italian shore of Lake Lugano, stands Villa Fogazzaro Roi, now a property of the FAI - Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano (Italian National Trust). Here, the writer Antonio Fogazzaro set his masterpiece Piccolo mondo antico: the villa preserves books, furniture, paintings, and mementos that intactly recreate the 19th-century atmosphere of the novel.
Evening tours and readings
As part of the Sere FAI d'Estate, the villa opens its doors after sunset for special events, presented under the title Passeggiando nel Piccolo Mondo Antico (Strolling through the Little Ancient World). The evenings combine a guided tour of the rooms and gardens with readings and narrative moments related to Fogazzaro's work, in a journey that enhances the relationship between the Ceresio landscape and the literary page.

The first, Passeggiando nel Piccolo Mondo Antico – Il solstizio d'estate (Strolling through the Little Ancient World – The Summer Solstice), is scheduled for June 21st, 2026; the second, Passeggiando nel Piccolo Mondo Antico – L'ultima luce dell'estate (Strolling through the Little Ancient World – The Last Light of Summer), on August 30th, 2026. On both occasions, the guided tour of the villa's rooms is accompanied by readings and narrative moments related to Antonio Fogazzaro's work.
