Great open-air theatre in the square of Verezzi, for 60 years
The Borgio Verezzi Theatre Festival is one of the oldest and most beloved open-air theatre events in Italy. Founded in 1967, in 2026 it celebrates its 60th edition, confirming itself as a national benchmark for summer drama. The festival takes place in the scenic Piazza Sant'Agostino, in the medieval village of Verezzi, a hillside hamlet of Borgio Verezzi, in the province of Savona.
What makes the festival unique is its stage: the small stone square of the village, with ancient houses acting as natural backdrops and the starry sky overhead. In this intimate and evocative atmosphere, generations of great Italian actors have graced the stage, offering the audience memorable productions. The festival is renowned for the quality of its programme, which alternates classics, new works, and productions created specifically for Verezzi.
Alongside the main summer programme, the festival offers the In&Out โ Miti Contemporanei (Contemporary Myths) series, which anticipates the season with performances also hosted at the Gassman Theatre. This section provides space for contemporary languages and new productions, expanding the offering and engaging with the grand theatre of the main square.
Borgio Verezzi is also famous for its caves, among the most beautiful in Italy, and for the charm of its hillside villages. The festival enhances this heritage, attracting spectators from all over Italy every summer and helping to make the small Savona municipality a capital of summer theatre.
For 2026, the Borgio Verezzi Theatre Festival celebrates the milestone of its 60th edition. The main summer programme, staged in July and August in Piazza Sant'Agostino, will be announced by the organisers closer to the season. Preceding the festival is the third edition of the In&Out โ Miti Contemporanei series (from May 23 to June 14), dedicated to contemporary theatrical languages.
The complete programme for the 60th edition, featuring evening performances in Piazza Sant'Agostino, will be published by the organisers closer to the summer season.
Borgio Verezzi is served by the train station on the GenoaโVentimiglia line. By car, exit at Finale Ligure or Borghetto Santo Spirito (A10 motorway). The hamlet of Verezzi is reached by driving up towards the village; shuttle services are available during performances.
