Candles and fireworks on the Ciamia rock in the seaside village of Framura
The Festival of the Madonna of the Sea is the celebration that every summer links Framura, a seaside village in the province of La Spezia, to its sea. Framura, made up of ancient hamlets perched on the coast, experiences one of its most intense moments in this festival, around its small port.
The most exciting moment of the festival is the fireworks display on the Ciamia rock, where hundreds of candles are placed to illuminate the rock. The Madonnina di Ciamia (Little Madonna of Ciamia), the village's symbolic statue, watches over the rock. It was repositioned on the rock after restoration. The combination of candles, fireworks, and the sea creates a highly evocative setting.
The festival, which falls on the first Sunday of August, is deeply felt by the community of Framura, who experience it as an expression of their maritime and religious identity. Recognized among the Authentic Ligurian Events, it is supported by funding from the Liguria Region.
Far from the most crowded destinations, Framura, with its Festival of the Madonna of the Sea, offers an authentic experience of the Eastern Liguria: a vertical village between the sea and olive trees, a united community, and a night of candles and fireworks that is worth the journey. For those seeking the real Liguria, it is an unmissable event.
On Sunday, August 2, 2026, the first Sunday of the month, Framura celebrates the Festival of the Madonna of the Sea at its small port. In the evening, hundreds of candles are placed on the Ciamia rock, at the foot of the little Madonna, creating a highly evocative setting that precedes the fireworks display over the sea.
The festival is recognized among the Authentic Ligurian Events 2026 and is supported by funding from the Liguria Region. The detailed program will be announced by the Municipality in the weeks prior.
Detailed hourly program to be confirmed.
