A festival that makes castles sing

MIC Fest – Music in the Castle is the major summer review that for over twenty years has intertwined live music with the historic sites of the Po Valley and Apennine regions. In 2026, the event celebrates its 23rd edition and confirms itself as one of Northern Italy's largest distributed festivals: 48 events, 68 Italian and international artists, 38 municipalities, and 8 provinces (Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Cremona, Mantua, Massa Carrara, and La Spezia), all with free admission. Artistic direction is by Enrico Grignaffini, who has made the dialogue between artists and historic spaces the hallmark of the project, supported by the Arturo Toscanini Foundation.

The Bardi stop, in the Parma Apennines

Among the venues for the 2026 program is Bardi, a village in the upper Ceno Valley in the Province of Parma, bordering Piacenza and Liguria. The town is dominated by its Rocca, one of the best-preserved fortresses in Emilia-Romagna: an imposing medieval complex built on a red jasper spur overlooking the confluence of the Ceno and Noveglia streams. Courtyards, walkways, and castle walls provide an ideal backdrop for open-air music, typical of MIC Fest's philosophy.

Music, words, and commitment

MIC Fest's strength lies in the variety of its program: from June 12 to September 11, the festival hosts jazz, swing, classical music, song-theater, storytelling, dance, literature, and civic engagement. Among the announced guests for the entire 2026 series are names like Alan Clark of Dire Straits, the Vandoliers, Giuliano Palma, the Shai Maestro Quartet, Immanuel Wilkins, Stefano Bollani with Valentina Cenni, Frida Bollani Magoni, trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso, and the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic Orchestra. Part of the initiatives is linked to a fundraising campaign for Emergency.

Attending a MIC Fest event in Bardi means combining listening to great music with discovering an Apennine village and one of the most fascinating fortresses in the Parma area. An evening designed for lovers of live music, but also for those who want to experience an authentic and lesser-known corner of Emilia-Romagna, far from the most crowded routes.

Currently, Bardi is officially listed among the 38 municipalities of the 23rd edition, but the precise date and artist for the Bardi concert have not yet been announced: the complete program, with details for each municipality, will be presented in Parma starting June 11, 2026.
