The Miracle of 1537

The Feast of Our Lady of Miracles in Cicagna, in Val Fontanabuona (Metropolitan City of Genoa), has its roots in a miraculous event. According to tradition, in 1537 the statue of the Madonna kept in the village church suddenly transfigured during mass, reviving its colors and making already withered flowers bloom again. This episode gave rise to the devotion that still animates the festival today.

The celebration combines the religious dimension — the singing of vespers and processions — with a more festive and convivial atmosphere. Food stalls offer traditional Ligurian dishes, such as cheese focaccia, ravioli, polenta, and grilled meats, while musical evenings accompany the festivities. The most spectacular moment is the fireworks display, which illuminates the valley to conclude the celebrations.
