About Festival of the Frog
One of the historic festivals of the Perugia area
The Festival of the Frog and Local Specialties is held in Capanne, a hamlet of the Municipality of Perugia, located southwest of the provincial capital. Organized by the Pro Loco Capanne, it is one of the longest-running events in the territory and attracts visitors from all over the Perugia area every summer for ten evenings of gastronomy, folklore, and fun.
The frog and traditional dishes
The absolute star is the granocchia, the name used in this area for frogs, prepared according to local recipes. Among the specialties served at the stands:
- Umbricelli alla Capannese, the typical fresh pasta of central Umbria in its local version
- Tagliatelle with frog pulp
- Fried and stewed frogs
- Local meats and cured meats
A part of the menu is also gluten-free, thanks to the collaboration with AIC Umbria, to welcome celiacs.
Art, folklore, music, and popular games
The Festival of the Frog is much more than a gastronomic feast: the program combines art and folklore, live music for dancing evenings, activities for children, sports moments, and traditional popular games that involve adults and children alike. It is this variety that makes it a landmark event of the summer in Capanne and the entire municipality of Perugia.
Festival of the Frog — edition 2026
The Festival of the Frog and Local Specialties 2026, now in its 46th edition, will liven up the hamlet of Capanne in Perugia from July 3 to 12. Ten evenings dedicated to the 'granocchia'—the frogs of local tradition—and to typical dishes, from 'umbricelli alla Capannese' to tagliatelle with frog pulp, to fried and stewed frogs, with a gluten-free menu section. Accompanying the culinary offerings will be a rich program of art, folklore, music for dancing, sports, children's activities, and popular games.

How to get there
Capanne is located along the route between Perugia and Lake Trasimeno, reachable by car from the Perugia-Bettolle junction (exits towards Capanne/San Mariano). The reference train station is Perugia.
