Markets, lights, and Christmas atmospheres between Corso Vannucci and the underground Rocca Paolina
Between the end of November and Epiphany, the historic center of Perugia transforms into a large Christmas village. The municipal initiatives program—promoted in recent years with titles like "A Perfect Christmas" and "A Christmas Together"—lights up the acropolis with markets, illuminations, shows, and installations that attract families and visitors for over a month.
The heart of the markets is Corso Vannucci, where wooden stalls offer national and international crafts, decorations, ornaments, toys, and food and wine specialties. A unique location is the Rocca Paolina, the underground 16th-century fortress, which hosts the "Natale alla Rocca" market at the Rocca Paolina Exhibition Center (CERP): walking among the ancient walls and illuminated stalls is one of the most characteristic experiences of Christmas in Perugia.
Accompanying the shopping are the artist-designed illuminations, video mapping that lights up the buildings, an ice skating rink, and concerts that echo from the balconies of the historic buildings in the center. A widespread Christmas that combines the magic of the holidays with the elegance of Perugia's medieval center, the capital of Umbria.
The 2026 edition of Christmas in Perugia lights up the historic center from November 24 until Epiphany. Along Corso Vannucci, wooden stalls return with crafts, decorations, and food and wine specialties, while the Rocca Paolina hosts "Natale alla Rocca," the market set up in the city's underground heart. Completing the atmosphere are artist-designed illuminations, video mapping, an ice skating rink, and concerts animating the balconies of the historic buildings in the center.
The detailed event calendar is published by the Municipality of Perugia in the weeks preceding the holidays.
The historic center of Perugia is accessible by the Minimetrò (from Pian di Massiano and Fontivegge station) and by escalators from the lower parking areas, which ascend directly through the Rocca Paolina.
Markets and events are free to access. The ice skating rink and some activities may have a fee.
