Re-enactments, festivals and Celtolimpiadi among the villages of the Costiera dei Cech
The Festival of the Ancient Villages is a travelling event involving three municipalities on the Costiera dei Cech, the sunny side of lower Valtellina, in the province of Sondrio: Traona, Cino, and Cercino. For a weekend, the three villages transform into a grand journey of history, traditions, and flavours, connected by a free shuttle.
The village of Cino is the realm of the Celtolimpiadi: skill challenges inspired by ancient Celtic peoples, featuring archery, hay tossing, and obstacle courses with shields. All accompanied by the Costiera's pizzoccherata, bringing Valtellina's signature dish to the table. Cino also hosts an Olympic five-ring walk.
In the other villages, medieval taverns, ancient crafts, falconry, encampments, historical re-enactments, donkey rides, and typical menus with polenta, pizzoccheri, and local wines follow one another. The festival, organized by the Municipalities of Traona, Cino, and Cercino together with their respective Pro Loco associations and the Porte di Valtellina Tourist Consortium, has enjoyed great public success since its first edition, confirming itself as an event capable of enhancing the heritage and traditions of this part of the province of Sondrio.
The 2026 festival enlivens the villages of Traona, Cino, and Cercino on April 25 and 26, preceded by a conference on April 24 (8:30 PM). In Cino, the Celtolimpiadi will feature archery, hay tossing, and obstacle courses with shields, as well as the Olympic five-ring walk and the Costiera's pizzoccherata. In the other villages: medieval tavern, ancient crafts, falconry, medieval encampment, re-enactment of the Thirty Years' War battle, donkey rides, and typical menus.
