The Brandacujun and the flavours of the hinterland in Rezzo
In Rezzo, in the upper Arroscia Valley in the province of Imperia, the Festival of Branda and Typical Cuisine celebrates one of the most iconic dishes of western Liguria: Brandacujun, a whipped cod and potato dish with oil, garlic, and parsley, creating a flavourful cream. A simple but tasty dish that tells the story of Ligurian hinterland cuisine.
In addition to the branda, the stands of the Pro Loco of Rezzo at Giardini La Pagoda offer local appetizers, cheeses, Vessalico garlic (a valley specialty), and local DOC and IGT wines. The festival promotes zero-kilometre products and the authentic flavours of the Arroscia Valley.
The event is listed among the Authentic Ligurian Events, an award from the Liguria Region for festivals linked to a typical product and a solid historical foundation. Along with the Trout Festival, the Festival of Branda is one of the events that make Rezzo a benchmark for the gastronomy of the Imperia hinterland.
For 2026, the Festival of Branda and Typical Cuisine is scheduled for June 20 at Giardini La Pagoda in Rezzo, as part of the regional calendar of Authentic Ligurian Events. The star dish is Brandacujun (whipped cod and potatoes), accompanied by local appetizers, cheeses, Vessalico garlic, and local DOC and IGT wines. Details on timings will be announced by the Pro Loco closer to the event.
By car: from the Imperia coast, take the Arroscia Valley along the SS28, then turn off for Rezzo. By train: Imperia station, then take a bus towards the hinterland.
