From manuscript to digital: letters, correspondence and thought in Monte del Lago
The Festival delle Corrispondenze is held in Monte del Lago, one of the most picturesque hamlets of the municipality of Magione, in the province of Perugia, a medieval village overlooking Lake Trasimeno. Born in 2015 as part of the Premio Nazionale Vittoria Aganoor Pompilj, the festival uses epistolary correspondence as the common thread of a journey that spans history, literature, journalism, and civil engagement.
The festival intertwines memorial narration and debate on the present through the myriad possibilities offered by letters, correspondence, and epistolary exchanges. Each edition revolves around a theme that dialogues the biographical events of cultural protagonists with major contemporary issues: hate speech, the impoverishment of language, the relationship between freedom and power.
Over the years, the festival has hosted some of the most authoritative voices in Italian culture, from Paolo Mieli to Ezio Mauro, from Stefano Massini to Walter Veltroni, as well as scientists like Stefano Mancuso. The evenings alternate between show-lectures, readings, meetings, music, and theater, in an intimate atmosphere that makes Monte del Lago a magical place.
The original heart of the event is the Premio Nazionale Vittoria Aganoor Pompilj, dedicated to letters and correspondence and named after the poetess who spent a significant part of her life at Villa Aganoor in Monte del Lago. The prize celebrates the art of epistolary writing in an era of digital communication.
Visiting the festival also means discovering one of the most beautiful corners of Lake Trasimeno: the sunsets over the lake, the village alleys, the tranquility of an authentic and uncrowded Umbria. A cultural and landscape experience to be fully enjoyed.
The Festival delle Corrispondenze 2026 confirms its early September appointment in the village of Monte del Lago, on Lake Trasimeno. The event will offer, as usual, a series of meetings, show-lectures, readings, and musical moments hosted between Villa Aganoor Pompilj and the village squares, accompanied by the Premio Nazionale Vittoria Aganoor Pompilj dedicated to letters and correspondence.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including the theme of the year, precise dates, and the list of guests, will be announced on the festival's official website and social media channels during the summer months. Recent editions have spanned six days with a preview in the preceding days.
