Progressive rock at the Medieval Fortress of Castiglione del Lago
The Trasimeno Prog Festival is a review dedicated to progressive rock held in August at the Medieval Fortress of the Lion in Castiglione del Lago, in the province of Perugia. The fortress, one of the most imposing in the Lake Trasimeno area, offers a spectacular and unusual setting for a musical genre that makes suggestion and theatricality one of its hallmarks.
The festival is divided into four evenings, each with its own identity: from tributes to the great international prog legends to performances by cult Italian bands, up to projects that blend progressive with jazz-rock and symphonic music. The programme alternates legendary formations and new proposals, creating a journey designed for connoisseurs but capable of captivating the curious.
Now in its seventh edition in 2026, the Trasimeno Prog Festival is organised with passion by the Trasimeno Prog association and is dedicated to the memory of Riccardo Regi, a figure linked to the birth of the event. More than just a series of concerts, it is a meeting point for a community of enthusiasts who return to Castiglione del Lago every summer to celebrate a genre that has made music history.
The 2026 edition, the seventh, takes place from August 20 to 23 at the Medieval Fortress of Castiglione del Lago, with four evenings dedicated to progressive rock. It opens with the Pink Floyd Night (rescheduled from the event postponed due to bad weather), continues with the concert by Le Orme, a symphonic tribute to Italian prog, and the concluding jazz-rock evening. The festival is dedicated to the memory of Riccardo Regi.
Opening with the rescheduled evening from the previous year due to bad weather: the Umbrian band Drunk Side and the Roman group Ranestrane with a personal reinterpretation of the album The Wall, accompanied by the screening of Alan Parker's famous film.
Le Orme, one of the most iconic Italian progressive formations, with the live show Trilogy (1971-1973).
Tribute to Italian prog with the International Symphonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Leonardo Quadrini and La Cruna del Lago as the main band of the evening.
Grand finale with Agorà, a historic band from the Marche region active since the seventies, presenting a new album in preview, and the quartet of percussionist Tony Esposito, with a project that reinterprets his early solo works and pays tribute to Pino Daniele.
Castiglione del Lago (PG) is located on Lake Trasimeno. By car from the Bettolle-Perugia junction; by train, the station is on the Florence-Rome line. The Medieval Fortress of the Lion is in the historic centre.
Tickets for individual evenings and season tickets (e.g., a season ticket for 3 evenings of your choice) are available online, including via the ciaotickets platform.
