The great end-of-summer village festival of the Bassa friulana
At the end of summer, the small hamlet of Galleriano, in the municipality of Lestizza in the province of Udine, transforms into one of the capitals of the sagre (village festivals) in the Bassa friulana. The Festa Paesana di Galleriano, organised with passion by the Pro Loco Galleriano (local tourism association), has its roots in the bicentennial devotion to the Madonna della Cintura (Our Lady of the Belt) and is now an unmissable event on the regional calendar.
The true draw of the festival is its cuisine. Under the marquees, you can enjoy grilled and flame-cooked meats, handmade gnocchi, freshly made frico, donkey stew, and traditional cjarsons, the sweet-and-savory ravioli that are a symbol of Friulian cuisine. There are also gluten-free options and a selection of wines from the Collio region. A carefully curated gastronomic offering that attracts food lovers from all over the region.
The beating heart of the festival is the large concrete dance floor, where orchestras and DJs keep the crowds dancing every evening. Among the most evocative moments is Danzando tra i Popoli, the folklore festival that brings groups and traditions from all over the world to Galleriano. There is also space for enthusiasts' gatherings, bingo with rich prizes, and a children's area with inflatable attractions.
With dozens of editions behind it, the Festa Paesana di Galleriano is much more than a sagra; it is the result of the work of an entire community that commits itself every year to offering days of celebration, taste, and popular culture. A virtuous example of how a small Friulian hamlet can attract thousands of visitors in the name of tradition.
The 2026 edition of the Festa Paesana di Galleriano, the sixtieth, is expected around the end of August and the beginning of September. The winning formula combining great Friulian cuisine, dancing, concerts, and folklore is confirmed, with the Danzando tra i Popoli festival among the most anticipated events.
The exact dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced in the coming weeks by Pro Loco Galleriano.
