Festa in Collina

A village festival with a fifty-year history

In the heart of the Sienese hills, in Casciano di Murlo — a village within the municipality of Murlo, in the province of Siena — the Festa in Collina is much more than just a food festival: it is the time of year when the whole community reunites. Organized by the historic A.S.D. La Sorba association, the event began in the 1970s and has grown into a landmark for local residents, drawing crowds from all over Tuscany and beyond.

The atmosphere is that of an authentic village fair: long tables set outdoors, the scent of Tuscan cooking, music playing late into the evening, and a packed calendar of events for all ages. For four days, Casciano transforms into a vibrant hub of conviviality, stretching from the Lecci park to the town squares.

Traditional cuisine

The gastronomic heart of the festival is the Cena in Piazza (Dinner in the Square): food stands typically open at 7:30 PM, serving classic Tuscan rustic dishes. Staples that return year after year include bean soup, homemade tagliatelle, tagliolini with chickpeas, grilled meats, and delicious homemade desserts prepared by local volunteers. The festival also features themed evenings; in some editions, it has opened with a special dinner dedicated to Greek cuisine.

Music, sports, and activities

Alongside the food, the Festa in Collina offers a rich and varied program. Evenings are enlivened by live music and dancing, with bands and orchestras playing everything from ballroom to Latin American styles. Sports have always been a key feature, including the Trofeo d'Oro road race, mountain bike tours, five-a-side football tournaments, and dedicated activities for children, such as creative workshops, games, and storytelling.

The 50th-anniversary edition

In 2026, the Festa in Collina celebrated its 50th anniversary: half a century of history marked by four days of events, the "ALI in collina" art exhibition at the Civic Center, and the "Bimbi in collina" area designed for families. It was a significant milestone for an event that remains one of the most cherished highlights of the summer calendar in the Murlo area.

Murlo and the Sienese Crete
