The traditional 'bigoli al torchio' pasta of the Polesine region, in Canaro
The Festa di Bigul al Torc is the festival that in Canaro, in the Bassa polesana area of the province of Rovigo, celebrates 'bigoli al torchio': the long, rough pasta made with the ancient 'torc', the hand-cranked press that for generations has given 'bigoli' that unmistakable texture capable of holding any sauce. The name itself, in dialect, tells the story of the gesture: bigul al torc, bigoli made with the press.
Organised by the Pro Loco Canaro APS, the festival enlivens Piazza Bersaglieri d'Italia for about ten days with a covered food stand. On the menu, 'bigoli' in their most beloved variations: with sardines, duck ragù, with sausage, or in a clams sauté, alongside grilled meats, fried dishes, and homemade desserts. There are also themed evenings dedicated to special dishes.
Every evening, the festival comes alive with orchestras and music groups: the dance floor is the heart of the event, in true Veneto 'liscio' (ballroom dancing) style, bringing together different generations in a spirit of popular merriment. It's one of those village festivals that mark the start of summer in Canaro and keep alive the connection with the agricultural traditions of the Polesine region.
The stand opens every evening from 7:30 PM. Reservations are accepted; for groups of six or more, a reservation service is also available via WhatsApp. For information, you can contact the Pro Loco Canaro.
