The peasant memory of Polesine

The Festa Contadina takes place every year in July in the hamlet of Pissatola, in Trecenta, in the province of Rovigo. The stated aim of the event is to enhance that peasant civilization in which the roots of Polesine culture are embedded: a journey into the rural life of the past, told with authenticity and passion by the local community.

Vintage tractors and nighttime threshing

The heart of the festival is the gathering of historic tractors and vintage agricultural machinery, with demonstrations of fieldwork. Among the most exciting moments are the reenactment of late 19th-century threshing, carried out with vintage machinery, and the evocative nighttime threshing, capable of transporting the audience to another era. There are also reconstructions of the threshing floor (aia) and demonstrations of ancient crafts in costume.

Market, gastronomy, and shows

Alongside the reenactment, the festival offers a market of typical products and crafts, a food stand with the flavors of the Polesine tradition, live music, comedy, folk dances, and activities for children. In the past, the program has also included conferences on the history of agricultural mechanization and local issues.

A community festival

Organized by the Circolo San Girolamo "La Compagnia della Sacra Vigna" with the support of the Municipality of Trecenta, the Veneto Region, and the Chamber of Commerce, the Festa Contadina di Pissatola is a precious example of a popular reenactment, where the memory of fieldwork becomes a celebration, an identity, and an occasion for meeting for all of Polesine.
