The Festa della Musica arrives in Matelica

On June 21st, the summer solstice, music is celebrated throughout Europe with the Festa della Musica: a grand popular festival born in France in 1982 and now an international event, featuring free, widespread concerts that invite musicians of all levels and genres to play in the streets and squares. Matelica, an elegant town in the Province of Macerata in the heart of the Marche region, also participates in this celebration every year, transforming its historic centre into an open-air stage.

A festival that belongs to the city

In Matelica, the Festa della Musica has a strong community spirit: the focus is not on big names, but on the local musical talent. The Scuola Civica di Musica Metodo Rusticucci - Toscanini '79 (Civic Music School), the Banda Musicale di Matelica (Matelica Music Band) with its Junior Band, and young local students create a program that blends different genres, from band music to youth groups, culminating in DJ sets that close the evening. The heart of the events is the Teatro Comunale Giuseppe Piermarini (Giuseppe Piermarini Municipal Theatre), a 18th-century gem overlooking the historic centre, while some performances take place in the city's squares and outdoor spaces.
