Motorcycle rally and cheese tasting between Monte San Vicino and Lake Castreccioni
Motoformaggiata is a new event making its debut in the Municipality of Apiro, in the Province of Macerata, the heart of the Marche hinterland. The idea behind the event is simple and delicious: to bring together the world of two wheels with the local cheese-making tradition, in a day that combines a motorcycle rally, the scenic roads of the Marche Apennines, and a tasting of local cheeses. The first edition is set for Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Apiro stands at over 500 meters above sea level, in a valley dominated by the unmistakable profile of Monte San Vicino (1,484 meters) and overlooking Lake Castreccioni, the large artificial basin also known as Lake Cingoli. It's a landscape of hills, woods, and winding roads that has always attracted motorcycle enthusiasts looking for scenic routes away from traffic. Apiro is also known as the "village of folklore," thanks to the historic Terranostra Festival, which every August brings folk groups from around the world to the village: a vocation for hospitality and celebration that Motoformaggiata embraces and reinterprets in a new way.
The program revolves around two elements: the motorcycle rally, with participants gathering and rides through the roads surrounding San Vicino, and the tasting of typical cheeses, especially the pecorino produced by local farms. Cheese-making culture is indeed one of the excellences of this corner of the Marche, where shepherding and cheese production have ancient roots. Alongside cheeses, there are other typical local products, from cured meats to baked specialties like cavallucci, traditional sweets that link Apiro to nearby Cingoli.
Motoformaggiata is the ideal occasion for those who love to combine the pleasure of riding with gastronomic discovery. As it's the first edition, the event aims to become a new landmark on Apiro's summer calendar, alongside the village's more established events. For visitors to the Marche, it's also a great excuse to explore a still-authentic territory, suspended between mountain and lake, where cheese-making tradition and hospitality are at home.
