Motor rally and cheese tasting between Monte San Vicino and Lake Castreccioni
The Motoformaggiata is a new event debuting in the Municipality of Apiro, in the Province of Macerata, the heart of the Marche hinterland. The idea behind the event is simple and tasty: to bring together the world of two wheels with local cheesemaking tradition, in a day that combines a motorcycle rally, the panoramic roads of the Marche Apennines, and the tasting of local cheeses. The first edition is set for Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Apiro stands at over 500 meters above sea level, in a valley dominated by the unmistakable profile of Monte San Vicino (1,484 meters) and overlooking Lake Castreccioni, the large artificial basin also known as Lake Cingoli. It is a landscape of hills, woods, and winding roads that has always attracted motorcycle enthusiasts looking for scenic routes away from traffic. Apiro is also known as the "village of folklore," thanks to the historic Terranostra Festival which every August brings folk groups from all over the world to the village: a vocation for hospitality and celebration that the Motoformaggiata embraces and reinterprets in a new way.
The program revolves around two elements: the motorcycle rally, with participants meeting and riding through the roads surrounding Monte San Vicino, and the tasting of typical cheeses, above all the pecorino produced by local farms. Cheesemaking culture is indeed one of the excellences of this corner of the Marche, where shepherding and milk processing have ancient roots. Alongside cheeses, there are also other typical local products, from cured meats to baked goods like cavallucci, the traditional sweets that link Apiro to nearby Cingoli.
The Motoformaggiata is the ideal occasion for those who love to combine the pleasure of riding with gastronomic discovery. Being the first edition, the event aims to become a new landmark in Apiro's summer calendar, alongside the village's more established events. For those visiting the Marche, it is also a good excuse to explore an still authentic territory, suspended between mountain and lake, where cheesemaking tradition and hospitality are at home.
