Dialect theatre, dancing evenings, and maritime traditions in the Rocca Mare district of Falconara Marittima
Estate in Piazza – Rocca Mare is the summer review that each year transforms the Rocca Mare district, in Falconara Marittima, the heart of the Province of Ancona and the Marche region, into a large open-air meeting place. Promoted by the Associazione Pionieri Rocca Mare in collaboration with the Municipality of Falconara Marittima, the event takes place in Piazza Pionieri della Rocca and offers a program that intertwines entertainment, tradition, and neighbourhood life.
The core of Estate in Piazza is the historic season of Marche dialect theatre, a tradition that has lasted for over twenty years and has built up a loyal audience over time. Eight evenings bring some of the region's most appreciated amateur theatre companies to Falconara, staging plays in the local dialect that are capable of making people laugh and, at the same time, preserving the local language and memory. Performances usually begin at 9:30 PM, with surreal characters and hilarious situations that tell the story of the area's life and customs.
Alongside the theatre, the program includes dancing evenings for all ages, moments of morning exercise by the sea, workshops and recreational activities designed for children, and tournaments, such as the boules tournament, which involve the neighbourhood. It is a calendar designed for families and for those who want to experience a Marche summer in a simple and convivial way, focused on gathering in the piazza.
Among the most heartfelt events is the Festa del Mare (Sea Festival), a celebration that combines devotion, memory, and maritime tradition. The program includes a boat procession and moments of popular religiosity dear to the community of Rocca Mare, in a district where the relationship with the Adriatic Sea is a significant part of its identity.
More than just a series of events, Estate in Piazza is a community project: the funds raised and the commitment of volunteers are also dedicated to enhancing the neighbourhood. For those visiting Falconara Marittima during the summer months, it is an opportunity to discover an authentic dimension of the Marche coast, made up of dialect, gastronomy, sea, and hospitality.
The 2026 program, organized by the Associazione Pionieri Rocca Mare with the Municipality of Falconara Marittima, kicks off on June 28 and continues until August 11 in Piazza Pionieri della Rocca. The review opens with dialect theatre, featuring the dialect comedy "Roba da matti" by the Fabiano Valenti company, set in the 1930s between Treia and Macerata.
The dialect theatre evenings are held on June 28, July 5, 12, 19, and 26, and August 2, 7, and 11, starting at 9:30 PM. The program is rounded out by dancing evenings, moments of well-being by the sea, activities for children, and the Sea Festival on August 9, with the traditional boat procession.
The events take place in Piazza Pionieri della Rocca, in the Rocca Mare district of Falconara Marittima (Province of Ancona), a short walk from the sea.
By car: take the Ancona Nord exit (A14 motorway), then follow the SS16 Adriatica towards Falconara Marittima. By train: Falconara Marittima station on the Adriatic line, well connected to Ancona. By plane: Ancona Airport "Raffaello Sanzio" in Falconara, a few kilometres away.
Many events (dancing evenings, children's activities, morning exercises, Sea Festival) are free to enter. Dialect theatre evenings usually have a small, affordable ticket price to support the activities of the Pionieri Rocca Mare. It is advisable to check times and details on the association's social media channels.
