The Festa dei Gunbi is the big summer festival of Toirano, a medieval village in the Val Varatella in the province of Savona. The name derives from the 'gunbi', the ancient rock-hewn oil mills carved into the rock, a testament to the long olive oil tradition of this territory. The event is particularly dedicated to extra virgin olive oil.
Four evenings of celebration
For four evenings, the medieval historic centre transforms into a journey of gastronomy, music, and market stalls. Among the narrow alleys and small squares of the village, food stands, market stalls, and musical entertainment liven up the festival, in an atmosphere that combines flavours, history, and conviviality.
An Authentic Ligurian Event
The Festa dei Gunbi is recognized among the Authentic Ligurian Events and funded by the Liguria Region, a mark that promotes events most closely linked to the territory's tradition. An opportunity to discover Toirano, its historical treasures, and its olive oil culture, in the enchanting setting of the Savona hinterland.
Festa dei Gunbi — edition 2026
For 2026, the 37th edition of the Festa dei Gunbi is expected in the first days of August in Toirano, continuing the tradition of holding it in the first or second week of the month. The precise dates will be announced by the organizing committee.
This year again, the medieval historic centre will host four evenings of gastronomy, music, and market, dedicated to extra virgin olive oil and the culture of the 'gunbi'. The event is recognized as an Authentic Ligurian Event 2026, with the support of the Liguria Region.

Toirano can be reached by car from the A10 motorway (Borghetto Santo Spirito exit), then towards the hinterland. The village is also known for the Toirano Caves.
