The Pipèn, Winter Flavour of the Bassa

The Festa dal Pipèn is held in Torricella del Pizzo, a municipality in the province of Cremona on the Po River, in the month of January – not by chance the coldest of the year, when in the farmhouses of the Bassa Padana, pigs were once slaughtered. The pipèn is the boiled pig's trotter, a humble and robust dish of peasant tradition, which gives its name to the entire event, organized by the Comitato Fiera Torricella (Torricella Fair Committee).

The Pizzetto, Salami with a Fillet

Alongside the pipèn, the festival highlights another local specialty: the pizzetto, a salami in which the fillet is cured inside the mixture. It is a typical product that is central to the identity of the town, to the point that in Torricella they also speak of a "pizzetto week". The festival thus becomes a showcase for the pork butchery and winter flavours of the Cremona area.

Two Weekends of Cuisine and Entertainment

The event takes place over two weekends: Saturday evenings feature dinners with entertainment (cabaret, live music, dance groups), while Sunday mornings are dedicated to the market of typical products and events such as demonstrations of traditional pork processing. Over the years, the festival has also hosted well-known faces from television gastronomy, confirming the town's deep connection with its peasant cuisine, in the heart of the province of Cremona.
