In the heart of the Val di Non, nestled on the Maddalene plateau at an altitude of over one thousand meters, the Municipality of Romeno celebrates its most anticipated day every year: August 15th, Ferragosto, dedicated to Maria Santissima Assunta, the village's patron saint. The Santa Assunta Festival is the patronal feast that brings the entire community together for a day marked by religious, social, and entertainment moments, following a tradition that has been renewed from generation to generation.
The day begins with Holy Mass celebrated in the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, dedicated to the patron saint. After the service, as tradition dictates, the statue of the Assunta is carried in a procession through the village streets, accompanied by the notes of the Romeno Municipal Band, one of the longest-running musical groups in the area, active for over 120 years and the true beating heart of the village's social life.
Following the religious ceremonies, the festivities move to Piazza Lampi, the center of the day's activities. At noon, an aperitif kicks off the traditional Ferragosto lunch, a gathering point for residents, vacationers, and visitors alike. In the afternoon, there is the grand Ferragosto tombola, an unmissable highlight of every village festival, with rich prizes to be won. In the evening, the band concert brings the day to a close, enlivening the square until late.
Celebrating Ferragosto in Romeno means experiencing the authentic atmosphere of a Trentino mountain festival, far from the crowds of more touristy destinations. Val di Non, famous for its apple orchards, canyons, and historic villages, offers a genuine experience of popular traditions and hospitality on this day. The Santa Assunta Festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Romeno with the support of the community and represents one of the defining events of the village in the province of Trento, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige.
The 2026 edition of the Santa Assunta Festival in Romeno is expected around August 15th, the day of Ferragosto and the feast of the patron saint Maria SS. Assunta. As of this writing, the Pro Loco of Romeno has not yet published the official dates and program for the 2026 edition. Following established tradition, the day should include Holy Mass in the church of Santa Maria Assunta, a procession accompanied by the local band, lunch in Piazza Lampi, an afternoon tombola, and an evening concert. The program will be updated as soon as it is made available by the organizers.
