The Ferragosto Bisteccata is the gastronomic festival that brings Montecchio Vesponi to life every August 15th. This is one of the most charming hamlets in the municipality of Castiglion Fiorentino, in the province of Arezzo, in the heart of eastern Tuscany. It is a simple and authentic event, born from the convivial traditions of the small villages of the Aretine Val di Chiana, where on Ferragosto evening, people gather around the grill to share the region's signature dish.

The star of the evening: Chianina steak

The undisputed protagonist of the festival is the Chianina breed steak, the famous beef raised right in this valley and considered one of the best in Italy. Grilled over large wood fires and served rare according to tradition, the steak is accompanied by classic Tuscan side dishes and local wines. The bisteccata is not a restaurant, but a large village banquet: you sit together, chat, and enjoy the meat served by the association's volunteers.

The village and castle of Montecchio Vesponi

The festival takes place in the hamlet of Montecchio Vesponi, dominated by the imposing medieval castle that rises on the hill and was once linked to the mercenary captain John Hawkwood (Giovanni Acuto). The setting of the village, nestled in the countryside between Castiglion Fiorentino and the Valdichiana plain, gives the evening an authentic atmosphere, far from large tourist events and close to the genuine spirit of a village feast.

Who organizes the festival

The Bisteccata is promoted and managed by CAS Montecchio Vesponi APS, the local social promotion association, which also hosts other convivial events throughout the year, such as the Cena dell'Ocio. The proceeds from the evening support the association's activities and the community life of the village.
