The straw hat fair that kicks off the agricultural season in Tonengo di Mazzè
The Fera dij Caplin is the fair that brings Tonengo di Mazzè to life every spring. Located in the Municipality of Mazzè, in the Province of Turin, the village sits in the heart of the Piedmontese Canavese. Organized by the Associazione Tonengo del Canavese with the patronage of the Municipality of Mazzè, the event transforms the central squares and Via Garibaldi into a large open-air market for an entire Sunday, brimming with colors, flavors, and tradition.
The fair's name pays homage to the caplin, the traditional straw hat worn by farmers while working in the fields. More than just a headpiece, the caplin is a symbol of the beginning of the summer agricultural season and the rural culture that has shaped the landscape and life of this corner of Piedmont. The Fera dij Caplin was created specifically to celebrate this deep bond between the community of Tonengo and its land.
From the morning, the town center fills with stalls featuring artisans, hobbyists, and creative makers offering original creations, local products, and handmade goods. There is also a dedicated street food area in Piazza del Peso, where visitors can enjoy delicious snacks in a convivial atmosphere. Live music accompanies visitors throughout the town, while children can enjoy pony rides and their first equestrian experience with the Old Ranch Ferrero, hosted on the lawn of the San Francesco oratory.
Now in its fifth edition, the Fera dij Caplin has become a staple of the Canavese calendar, successfully blending the traditional village fair atmosphere with a broader focus on local associations and community solidarity. It is the perfect opportunity to discover Tonengo di Mazzè, stroll through its streets, and experience the welcoming spirit of a community that makes conviviality its hallmark.
The 2026 edition of the Fera dij Caplin, the fifth of the event, was held on Sunday, May 31, 2026, in Tonengo di Mazzè, a village in the Municipality of Mazzè (TO). Organized by the Associazione Tonengo del Canavese, the fair brought the central squares and Via Garibaldi to life from 10:00 AM with artisan, hobbyist, and creative stalls, a street food area in Piazza del Peso, live music, and activities for children. This edition was dedicated to the memory of Professor Pietro Monte (1823–1888), a figure closely linked to the town's history.
