About Fava Beans and Salame Festival

Every April 25th, on Liberation Day, Sant'Olcese celebrates its two most beloved products: the famous Sant'Olcese salame and fresh spring fava beans. On the Church Square, the festival combines tradition, taste, and conviviality with food stalls, markets, and live music. It is one of the most cherished events in the Polcevera Valley, in the Province of Genoa, attracting many visitors from the city and the hinterland each year.

The salame that made the town's history

Sant'Olcese, a small municipality in the Polcevera Valley in the Province of Genoa, owes much of its fame to one product: Sant'Olcese salame, a historic cured sausage made from pork and beef, with a long artisanal tradition. The festival, organized by the Circolo ACLI Sant'Olcese along with local associations, celebrates its deliciousness every spring.

Fava beans, pesto, and seasonal flavors

The signature dish of the day is the pairing of local salame, fresh fava beans, and Sardinian cheese, accompanied by taglierini with fava bean pesto. The stalls open at noon on the Church Square and offer regional specialties in a village festival atmosphere, with stalls selling local products.

A village festival with music and community

Live music accompanies lunch and the afternoon, with the Folk & Beans Cover Band, while the village comes alive with markets and a convivial atmosphere that is the true spirit of the event. Sant'Olcese, whose name recalls the bishop whose relics are kept in the parish church, rediscovers its agricultural roots on a day of taste and tradition.
