About Faro in Festa

Faro in Festa is the event that kicks off the summer season in Punta Secca, a seaside hamlet of Santa Croce Camerina, in the province of Ragusa. For a few days between late May and early June, the village gathers around the historic Scalambri Lighthouse, which is exceptionally opened to the public for free guided tours. Live music, an outdoor art competition, sea-themed workshops, local gastronomy, and family activities enliven the seafront in an event that weaves together maritime identity, culture, and tourism in the heart of south-eastern Sicily.

Faro in Festa, the seaside village awakens

Faro in Festa is the event that officially inaugurates the summer season in Punta Secca, the famous seaside hamlet of the municipality of Santa Croce Camerina, in the province of Ragusa. Established in 2024, the festival has quickly become a highly anticipated appointment, capable of attracting thousands of visitors and transforming the small village overlooking the sea into an open-air stage for culture, tradition, and conviviality.

The Scalambri Lighthouse, a symbol of the community

The beating heart of the event is the historic Scalambri Lighthouse, built in 1857 by the will of Ferdinand II of Bourbon. During the festival, the lighthouse is exceptionally opened to the public for free guided tours, conducted by specialized personnel from the Navy's Lighthouse Service with the support of the MARIFARI command in Messina. It is a rare opportunity to climb up to the lantern, discover the history of maritime signaling, and admire the Iblean coast from above: an identity heritage that the community of Punta Secca holds dear.

A program blending sea, art, and flavors

The common thread of the festival is the connection to the sea, expressed in many forms. The «Living the Sea» section offers educational workshops on nutrition, demonstrations of traditional bread-making, and meetings dedicated to artisanal fishing and the promotion of forgotten fish species. There is also space for the outdoor art competition «Homage to Punta Secca», which brings together dozens of artists invited to portray the most evocative corners of the village, with an exhibition of the works and a final awards ceremony.

  • Free guided tours of the Scalambri Lighthouse, with morning and afternoon slots
  • Live evening concerts featuring local bands
  • «Living the Sea» workshops on nutrition, fishing, and traditions
  • Outdoor art competition «Homage to Punta Secca»
  • Baby Village in Piazza Concordia with games and entertainment for children
  • Local gastronomy and tastings of typical products

Culture and identity as a driver for the territory

Promoted by the Municipality of Santa Croce Camerina together with the Glocal Association and with the support of MARIFARI Messina, Faro in Festa involves local associations, from the Pro Loco to the Avis and the Civil Protection. The event aims to enhance the historical and maritime heritage of Punta Secca, weaving together cultural promotion and tourism in one of the most beloved locations on the Ragusa coast, also made famous as the setting for the home of Inspector Montalbano.

Faro in Festa — edition 2026

The third edition of Faro in Festa took place in Punta Secca from May 30 to June 2, 2026, recording about 4,000 visitors over four days. Between free tours of the Scalambri Lighthouse, concerts, sea-themed workshops, and the «Homage to Punta Secca» art competition, the event inaugurated the summer season of the Ragusa seaside village.
