About Farmers' Fair

The Farmers' Fair kicks off the event calendar for the Municipality of Aulla, in the province of Massa-Carrara. Held annually on the last Sunday of February in the village of Quercia, Lunigiana, it coincides with the historic Chiodo di Maiale Festival. From early morning, the village streets are filled with stalls offering local farm-to-table products, handicrafts, flowers, plants, and agricultural and livestock equipment. It is a festive day celebrating the rural world and the authentic flavors of the Lunigiana region.

A day dedicated to the rural world

The Farmers' Fair is one of the most cherished events in the village of Quercia, a hamlet of the Municipality of Aulla, in the heart of Lunigiana (Massa-Carrara province, Tuscany). It takes place every year on the last Sunday of February and is chronologically the first trade fair of the entire municipal area: for this reason, it is highly anticipated by farmers, breeders, artisans, and visitors from across the valley.

What you will find at the fair

From the early hours of the morning, the village comes alive with a long path of stalls. The fair focuses on agriculture and rural crafts, with special attention to short supply chains and farm-to-table products.

  • Local farm-to-table products: cured meats, cheeses, honey, preserves, and other Lunigiana specialties
  • Local handicrafts
  • Flowers and plants, with an eye toward the upcoming new season
  • Agricultural and livestock equipment

Together with the Chiodo di Maiale Festival

The Farmers' Fair does not stand alone: it is held in conjunction with the Chiodo di Maiale Festival, a gastronomic event that has drawn hundreds of food lovers to the village for nearly forty years. The "chiodo," a typical Lunigiana dish, is essentially the seasoned sausage mixture cooked in traditional terracotta "testi" (earthenware pans). Those visiting the fair in the morning can stop for lunch in the heated halls of the village to enjoy chiodo di maiale, cold cuts, porchetta, testaroli with pesto, polenta with mushrooms, and traditional desserts like ricciolina.

A community-building event

Organized by the Pro Loco La Quercia d'Oro in collaboration with the Municipality of Aulla, the event was created with the spirit of valuing agricultural work and keeping village life vibrant. It is a perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Lunigiana, stroll among the stalls, purchase genuine products, and soak up the atmosphere of a village festival that remains on a human scale. Ample parking is available for those arriving by car.
