A community celebration in the heart of Sarentino, Val Sarentino
Family Day Sarntal is a vibrant festival that brings the village center of Sarentino (known as Sarnthein in German), the main town of Val Sarentino in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, South Tyrol, to life. Launched in 2026 as an innovative event, it was created with a clear vision: to unite the local community, regional economy, and volunteer sector, offering families, friends, and visitors a full day of connection, discovery, and shared experiences.
From 10:00 AM, the center of Sarentino turns into a colorful experiential world, featuring themed zones spread across the village streets and squares, interactive stations, performances, music, and local gastronomy. The event is promoted by GRW Sarntal (the cooperative for regional development and training) and supported by numerous local entities, including the Raiffeisenkasse Sarntal, Jugenddienst Bozen-Land, local merchants, the Tourismusverein Sarntal tourist board, the MirSarner initiative, and many other local associations.
The program for children is packed with fun: a grand treasure hunt through the village center ending at the new Raiffeisenkasse Sarntal premises, a bouncy castle, a climbing tower, a giant sandbox, the mechanical bull Friedl, ping-pong tables, creative stations, face painting, and active games organized by the youth service. The event also features displays of emergency vehicles, a mountain rescue dog unit, and archery.
The stage and streets come alive with performances by magician Peet Magic, musical contributions from Anton Nussbaumer, the Soltnbuebm, the Tone Deaf school band, traditional performances by the Sarentino children's folk dance group (Kindervolkstanzgruppe Sarnthein), and other live music that keeps the festive atmosphere going all day long.
The evening's highlight is the Schubgrattl-Charity-Rennen, a charity wheelbarrow race: local businesses, associations, and organizations from Val Sarentino decorate their own wheelbarrows and compete along a fun course for a good cause. It is a playful and engaging way to close a day that celebrates the community spirit of this corner of South Tyrol.
The first edition of Family Day Sarntal was held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, in the center of Sarentino (Sarnthein), starting at 10:00 AM. The new format, promoted by GRW Sarntal together with Raiffeisenkasse Sarntal, Jugenddienst Bozen-Land, local merchants, Tourismusverein Sarntal, and MirSarner, transformed the village center into an experiential world for families and the community.
Among the themed areas — Abenteuerland, Sarner Streetfood, Erlebnis Sarntal, Sarner Lieblingsläden, MirSarner hautnah, and Helden des Alltags — visitors enjoyed the grand treasure hunt, the bouncy castle, the AVS climbing tower, the mechanical bull Friedl, and the giant sandbox. As for entertainment, magician Peet Magic, Anton Nussbaumer, the Soltnbuebm, the Tone Deaf school band, and the Sarentino children's folk dance group accompanied the day. In the evening, the grand finale featured the Schubgrattl-Charity-Rennen, the charity wheelbarrow race between local companies and associations.
