On Sunday, June 21, 2026, the EXPA – Experiences for Passionate People series presents one of its most anticipated outings: a guided excursion into the alpine pastures of Castelmagno, in the upper Valle Grana, dedicated to the king of Piedmontese cheeses, the Castelmagno d'Alpeggio DOP. We meet at 9:00 AM in Borgata Colletto, from where the group will set off to explore the pastures, hamlets, and ancient trails of this corner of the Province of Cuneo.

Among pastures, hamlets, and dairies

The route leads to the Azienda Agricola Il Falco dairy, where you can observe the stages of Castelmagno d'Alpeggio production up close: from milking to curdling, all the way to the aging process that gives the cheese its unmistakable character. It is a rare opportunity to understand why this DOP product, inextricably linked to the Valle Grana territory, is considered a pinnacle of Piedmontese gastronomy.

A series that tells the story of Valle Grana

The initiative is part of EXPA, the long-running series organized by the Ecomuseo Terra del Castelmagno (La Cevitou Association), now in its twelfth edition. Events run from February to November across the eight municipalities of Valle Grana, a territory united by the Occitan language and culture and the heart of the Castelmagno production and aging area. Nature hikes, cultural meetings, and themed evenings make up a calendar designed to highlight the communities and knowledge of the Cuneo mountains.

An experience for enthusiasts

The excursion is aimed at those who love walking and wish to experience the mountains in a slow and mindful way. At the end of the route, those who wish can stay for lunch at Rifugio Valliera, where a traditional local menu is served. A day that combines light sport, nature, cheesemaking tradition, and conviviality, respecting the Occitan identity of Castelmagno and Valle Grana.
