Puppets, marionettes, and shadow theater arrive in the squares of Lamporo
EuroPuppet is the International Traveling Puppet Theater Festival, a summer event that has been enlivening the squares of Eastern Piedmont for years, showcasing puppets, marionettes, dolls, shadow theater, and live acting. Conceived and organized by Kirby Teatro - La Bottega Teatrale APS of Fontanetto Po (VC), under the artistic direction of Giuseppe Cardascio and Salvatore Varvaro, the festival travels from town to town across the Valsesia, Vercelli, and, as of this year, the Turin areas.
In Lamporo, a small town in the Bassa Vercellese overlooking the rice fields between the Po and Dora Baltea rivers, EuroPuppet arrives on the central weekend of July. The village joins the festival circuit alongside neighboring Crescentino and Fontanetto Po, giving a small rural community the chance to host high-quality performances that are usually hard to find outside major cities.
The EuroPuppet formula combines two elements: performances suitable for all ages and creative workshops for children. The shows take place outdoors in town squares and courtyards, or indoors in case of bad weather. The festival hosts both Italian and international companies, offering a repertoire that ranges from classic tales like Pinocchio, Robin Hood, and Little Red Riding Hood to original and poetic performances.
Reaching its nineteenth edition in 2026, EuroPuppet is now one of the most established puppet theater events in Italy. Its traveling format allows many small towns in the Vercelli province and Piedmont to become part of a large, widespread festival. It is not a competitive event: after each show, the audience expresses their appreciation with a vote, and the most popular performances are brought back the following year.
For those visiting the area, the Lamporo stop is also an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Vercelli region, nestled among rice fields and rural Piedmontese villages, during a summer evening dedicated to imagination. The Lamporo leg confirms the deep roots of this festival in the Eastern Piedmont territory and the Municipality of Lamporo.
Performances are held in the center of Lamporo (VC), in the town's squares and outdoor spaces. In case of bad weather, events will be moved indoors.
Lamporo is located in the Bassa Vercellese, along the road between Crescentino and Livorno Ferraris. By car, it can be reached from the A4 motorway (Greggio or Borgo d'Ale exits). The most convenient train stations are in Livorno Ferraris or Chivasso, with onward travel by bus or car.
Participation in the shows is free; a voluntary contribution at the end of the performances is appreciated. For workshops, booking is recommended by contacting the organizers via WhatsApp or SMS.
