About Subbiano Music Festival

Every June 21st, on the summer solstice, the historic center of Subbiano transforms into a widespread stage for the European Music Festival. From 5:00 PM to midnight, the streets, squares, and gardens of this Casentino village fill with free concerts ranging from gospel to rock, pop to punk. Choirs, music schools, and local bands bring to life an event open to everyone, complete with vintage markets and food stalls run by the Pro Loco. It is an appointment that celebrates music as a shared language and tells the story of this corner of Tuscany along the Arno Valley.

The Music Festival in the heart of the Casentino

The European Music Festival in Subbiano is the event that, every June 21st, brings live music to the streets and squares of the historic center of this town in the Province of Arezzo, overlooking the Arno Valley at the gateway to the Casentino. The event adheres to the Festa della Musica, the celebration born in France in 1982 and spread throughout Europe on the day of the summer solstice: a day when music leaves theaters and concert halls to invade public spaces, free for both the public and the artists.

"The voice of the places"

The edition's subtitle, The voice of the places, perfectly summarizes the spirit of the Subbiano festival: not a single stage, but widespread music that flows through the village, from the historic center to the gardens, highlighting every corner of the town. From 5:00 PM to midnight, different genres and ensembles alternate, with dozens of musicians and groups performing in multiple spots simultaneously, turning Subbiano into a sound map to be explored on foot.

A community celebration

The event is organized by the Municipality of Subbiano and involves local associations: the Pro Loco, which manages the vintage market and food stalls, local music schools and choirs, as well as merchant associations. The result is an authentic village festival where the musical dimension intertwines with the convivial one, and where local participation is the true driving force of the event.

The different musical souls

  • Armonie d'Europa: the afternoon dedicated to choirs, music school students, and small ensembles, featuring classical, contemporary, and gospel music.
  • Subbiano Sound Crossing: the stage in Piazza Carducci, with local bands ranging from rock to pop, blues to indie.
  • Stone Wave: the program beneath the walls, more oriented towards alternative rock, pop-rock, and punk.

Tradition and territory

The Subbiano Music Festival is an example of how the long tail of Italian musical events can take root in small towns: a municipality of a few thousand inhabitants that, one evening a year, becomes the live music capital of the Casentino, gifting residents and visitors an evening of free celebration in the heart of Tuscany.
