The voice of the places: the Casentino village that plays on the day of the solstice
The European Music Festival in Subbiano is the event that, every June 21st, brings live music to the streets and squares of the historic center of this town in the Province of Arezzo, overlooking the Arno Valley at the gateway to the Casentino. The event adheres to the Festa della Musica, the celebration born in France in 1982 and spread throughout Europe on the day of the summer solstice: a day when music leaves theaters and concert halls to invade public spaces, free for both the public and the artists.
The edition's subtitle, The voice of the places, perfectly summarizes the spirit of the Subbiano festival: not a single stage, but widespread music that flows through the village, from the historic center to the gardens, highlighting every corner of the town. From 5:00 PM to midnight, different genres and ensembles alternate, with dozens of musicians and groups performing in multiple spots simultaneously, turning Subbiano into a sound map to be explored on foot.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Subbiano and involves local associations: the Pro Loco, which manages the vintage market and food stalls, local music schools and choirs, as well as merchant associations. The result is an authentic village festival where the musical dimension intertwines with the convivial one, and where local participation is the true driving force of the event.
The Subbiano Music Festival is an example of how the long tail of Italian musical events can take root in small towns: a municipality of a few thousand inhabitants that, one evening a year, becomes the live music capital of the Casentino, gifting residents and visitors an evening of free celebration in the heart of Tuscany.
