The major European street market on the Follonica seafront
Piazze d'Europa is the major European street market that brings the Follonica seafront to life every spring, in the Province of Grosseto, Tuscany. Organized by FIVA (Italian Street Vendors Federation) in partnership with Confcommercio and the Municipality of Follonica, the event has become a highly anticipated tradition that, as the local administration likes to say, represents "the true signal of spring's awakening."
For three days, Viale Italia, Piazza XXV Aprile, and Piazza a Mare are filled with colorful stalls, turning the promenade into an international stage: a continuous journey of scents, flavors, and cultures that transports visitors from one nation to another without ever leaving this Maremma seaside town.
The heart of Piazze d'Europa lies in its vast selection of food, wine, and handicrafts. Along the stalls, you can sample specialties arriving from numerous European countries and various Italian regions:
Alongside street food and traditional dining, Piazze d'Europa offers unique handicrafts, home goods, accessories, and handmade products, making the event a perfect opportunity for unique shopping. The event, with free admission, is designed for families, tourists, and residents alike, with stalls open continuously from morning until late at night.
Over the years, Piazze d'Europa has solidified its commitment to sustainability: in recent editions, the event has earned the Legambiente EcoAction certification as a low-environmental-impact event, utilizing electricity from renewable sources and waste collection stations distributed throughout the fair. It is an international market that looks to the future while preserving the traditional charm of quality street vending.
The 2026 edition of Piazze d'Europa, the fourteenth, confirmed Follonica as the capital of European flavors and cultures for an entire spring weekend. Organized by FIVA Confcommercio in collaboration with the Municipality, the event filled Viale Italia, Piazza XXV Aprile, and Piazza a Mare with international stalls, raising the bar even higher with several absolute novelties.
Stalls open continuously from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM for all three days, along Viale Italia, Piazza XXV Aprile, and Piazza a Mare.
The big news for 2026: Scottish tweed crafts (debuting in the FIVA national circuit), Portuguese pasteis de nata, Abruzzo's stracotteria in Piazza XXV Aprile, and the mobile cocktail bar. Returning favorites include Spanish paella, Austrian speck, and Bronte pistachios.
The European market winds along Viale Italia (the Follonica seafront), Piazza XXV Aprile, and Piazza a Mare, in the city center.
Stalls are open continuously from 10:00 AM until midnight for all three days of the event.
Access to the market is completely free.
By train: Follonica station on the Rome–Pisa–Genoa line, just a few minutes' walk from the seafront. By car: take the Scarlino/Follonica exit from the SS1 Aurelia. During the event, we recommend using peripheral parking lots due to traffic changes in the seafront area.
