Three days of flavors, crafts, and European cultures at the port of Portoferraio
The European Market โ Elba Island is one of the most anticipated events at the start of summer in Portoferraio, the main town of Elba Island in the province of Livorno, Tuscany. Now in its ninth edition, the event is part of the traveling circuit of European Markets organized by FIVA Confcommercio, which visits dozens of Italian cities every year, bringing with it the flavors, scents, and craftsmanship of the entire continent.
For three days, the central streets and the harbor front of Portoferraio come alive with over one hundred exhibitors: approximately 70% from abroad and the remaining 30% dedicated to Italian regional excellence. Street food vendors offer international specialties, grilled dishes, traditional sweets, craft beers, and drinks from all over Europe, while artisan stalls display artistic creations, textiles, homeware, natural cosmetics, spices, and herbal products.
The event takes place along three areas of the center: Piazza Stella Marina, Viale Mazzini, and Via Vittorio Emanuele, overlooking the scenic Medici port. The exhibition stands and street food kitchens remain open continuously from morning until late at night for all three days. The inauguration officially opens the event on Friday afternoon.
With free admission, the European Market is designed for families, young people, market enthusiasts, and tourists who begin to crowd the island during this period. It is an opportunity to stroll through diverse colors and scents, taste dishes that tell stories of distant traditions, and take home a piece of unique craftsmanship, all framed by the beauty of the port of Portoferraio.
The European Market confirms itself as one of the key events for the Municipality of Portoferraio, capable of combining the tourist vocation of Elba Island with the charm of a large, widespread European festival.
The 2026 edition of the European Market โ Elba Island, the ninth in the series, enlivened the center of Portoferraio from Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14, 2026. The stands were distributed between Piazza Stella Marina, Viale Mazzini, and Via Vittorio Emanuele, with the official opening on Friday at 12:00 PM.
Over one hundred exhibitors offered international street food, craft beers, sweets, traditional products, and artisan stalls, with approximately 70% foreign operators and 30% dedicated to Italian excellence. Stands and kitchens remained open continuously from morning until late at night. Admission was free.

Portoferraio is the main port of Elba Island: it can be reached by ferry from Piombino Marittima (about a one-hour crossing) with frequent connections in high season. From Piombino, cars can be boarded directly onto the ferry. The reference railway station on the mainland is Piombino Marittima, reachable via Campiglia Marittima.
Free admission. Stands and street food kitchens are open continuously from morning until late at night during the three days.
During the event, parking bans and traffic changes are in effect in the port areas: it is advisable to park in areas not affected by the ordinance and reach the market on foot. Given the season, it is recommended to book your ferry and accommodation in advance.
