About Etnie in Festa

Etnie in Festa is the multicultural event held in Acuto, a small village in the Ciociaria region of the Frosinone province, in the heart of Lazio. Every summer, the streets and squares of the historic center come alive with music, dance, personal stories, crafts, and the culinary traditions of the many people who call this town home. It is a free, participatory event dedicated to cross-cultural dialogue, the integration of foreign residents, and a powerful message of peace, hospitality, and mutual respect.

Etnie in Festa: the village of Acuto celebrates dialogue between peoples

In the historic center of Acuto, a small town in the Ciociaria region perched on the Ernici Mountains in the province of Frosinone, the Etnie in Festa event transforms alleys and squares into a mosaic of languages, colors, and flavors for a few days each summer. Promoted by the Municipality of Acuto, the event was created to give a voice to the numerous foreign communities living in the town and to build, through culture, a bridge of mutual understanding between those born here and those who have chosen this corner of Lazio as their new home.

A program of music, dance, and personal stories

The heart of the festival lies in the richness of its languages. On stage and through the streets, folk groups, percussionists, singers, and dancers from all over the world take turns: from the sounds of West Africa to the traditions of Eastern Europe, and the voices of the Mediterranean. Alongside the performances, there is space for the personal stories of those who left their home countries, often marked by the pain of exile and nostalgia, but also by the strength of rebirth.

Crafts, flavors, and workshops

Etnie in Festa is also a journey for the five senses. Along the route, you will find:

  • craft stalls and traditional items made by the various communities;
  • ethnic food tastings, featuring traditional dishes from Romania, Moldova, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Senegal;
  • workshops and exhibitions designed for families and children;
  • book presentations and meetings on immigration, hospitality, and integration.

A message of peace and inclusion

More than just a local festival, Etnie in Festa is a cultural and social project. Each edition chooses a central theme that invites reflection: the condition of migrant women, the value of hospitality, and respect for differences. It is an occasion where the small village of Acuto becomes a symbol of an open community, capable of recognizing diversity as a source of wealth rather than a threat.

Acuto and the Ciociaria region

Visiting Acuto during the festival also means discovering one of the most evocative villages in the province of Frosinone, with its panoramic views of the valley, historic churches, and the authentic atmosphere of the Ciociaria region. The event, which has free admission, is part of the Estate Acutina program and represents one of the most anticipated and cherished appointments for the local population of Lazio.

Etnie in Festa — edition 2026

The fifth edition of Etnie in Festa took place on July 11 and 12, 2026, in the historic center of Acuto, with two days dedicated to cross-cultural encounters. Music, dance, personal stories, crafts, and gastronomy brought the Ciociaria village to life with a strong message of peace and inclusion.

The 2026 edition featured the book «Siamo qui — Storie e racconti di donne migranti» (We are here — Stories and tales of migrant women) by writer and journalist Giusi Sammartino, presented during the festival alongside Lidia Bolfosu, founder of the Artaras folk group from Rome. Among the protagonists on stage were the Senegalese group Sunu Africa, with percussion and dance through the village streets, and performances by artists and groups from Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova. Numerous representatives from Romania, Moldova, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria were present. The event, promoted by the Municipality of Acuto, was a great success with the public.
