The summer festival program in San Mauro Castelverde featuring music, theatre, traditions, and the nature of the Madonie mountains
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Estate Maurina is the summer festival program of San Mauro Castelverde, a village perched over a thousand meters high in the heart of the Madonie Park, in the province of Palermo. From mid-July to early September, the squares, alleys, and the Municipal Theatre of the historic center fill with music, theatre, dance, exhibitions, food festivals, and family initiatives, in an entirely free program designed for residents and visitors alike.
The festival weaves together different genres and languages: from concerts of Sicilian identity music to auteur theatre, from dance performances by local young talents to comedy shows, and screenings of documentary films linked to the town's history. There is no shortage of deeply rooted popular traditions, such as equestrian parades, tastings of typical products, and the famous Notte Bianca (White Night) featuring street performers, spray art, DJ sets, and the essential pani cunzatu that scents the village streets.
Estate Maurina also focuses on promoting the territory: inaugurations of hiking networks to discover the natural heritage of the Madonie, photographic exhibitions dedicated to the sacred heritage of local churches, and sporting events such as the town's Mini Slalom car race. It is a formula that combines culture, nature, and social life, strengthening the sense of community in a small village in the Sicilian hinterland.
Situated in a panoramic position among the mountains of the Madonie Park, San Mauro Castelverde is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, in Sicily, known for its views, nature trails, and typical products like caciocavallo cheese. Estate Maurina represents the most vibrant time of the year, when returning emigrants and summer tourism breathe new life into the historic center.
The event is organized and promoted by the Municipality of San Mauro Castelverde. The detailed program for each edition is released through the municipality's official channels, particularly its official Facebook page. Events take place in various locations around the town and admission is free.
