The summer festival of the highest village in the Lazio region, featuring music, culture, tradition, and the nature of the Simbruini Mountains.
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
At over a thousand meters above sea level, nestled among the beech forests of the Simbruini Mountains Regional Nature Park, Filettino is the highest municipality in the Lazio region and one of the most picturesque villages in the province of Frosinone. Every year, when the warm season turns the village into a holiday destination, the calendar of events is known as Estate Filettinese: not just a single event, but a widespread festival covering the weeks between July and September.
The event is born from the collaboration between the Municipality of Filettino and the Pro Loco Filettino APS, with the contribution of local associations, parishes, and tourism operators in the area. The Simbruini Mountains Park includes the festival in its annual initiatives, confirming the close bond between the village festival and the naturalistic vocation of this corner of Lazio near the Abruzzo border.
The program is deliberately diverse, designed for all ages and different audiences. Recent editions have featured:
Those arriving in Filettino in summer find a village that fills up without losing its intimate scale. The events take place almost entirely outdoors, among the small squares of the historic center, the viewpoints overlooking the Aniene valley, and the green spaces on the edge of the town. The evenings are cool even in August, making the festival a valid alternative to the seaside resorts of lower Lazio: you can attend a concert, have dinner with polenta or a dish of mountain beans, and the next morning set off for an excursion towards Campo Staffi or the springs of the Aniene river.
Estate Filettinese is a great example of how small towns in the Lazio Apennines can build a continuous cultural proposal with limited resources. There are no big national headliners, but a dense schedule, almost entirely free, capable of truly involving the community: it is the local associations that build it, one event after another. For the visitor, it is also the best opportunity to get to know Filettino beyond the ski season, when the village shows its most lively and hospitable face.
The detailed program is usually released close to the start of the season through the social media channels of the Municipality of Filettino and the Pro Loco Filettino APS, local press, and posters displayed in the village. Since some dates may change due to weather, it is advisable to check the times in the days immediately preceding the event.
As every year, the Municipality of Filettino and the Pro Loco Filettino APS are preparing the summer program for the highest village in Lazio, in the heart of the Simbruini Mountains Regional Nature Park. At the moment, no detailed official program for the 2026 edition has been published, nor a calendar with definitive dates.
Based on previous editions, it is reasonable to expect a widespread festival between July and September, with concerts and musical walks, cultural meetings, craft markets, guided excursions, sporting events, and popular festivities in the historic center. Definitive information is usually released through the social channels of the Municipality and the Pro Loco and the local Ciociaria press.
It is advisable to check dates and times directly with the organizers before planning your trip.
By car from Rome: A24 or via Tivoli-Subiaco, then SR 411 to Filettino (about 100 km, 1h45). From Frosinone: SR 155 to Fiuggi, then Trevi nel Lazio and Filettino (about 50 km). The nearest useful train station is Rome Tiburtina or Frosinone, with continuation by Cotral bus to Fiuggi and local connections.
Most of the Estate Filettinese events have free admission. Some activities (guided excursions, workshops, social dinners) may require a participation fee: check with the organizers from time to time.
Filettino offers hotels, guest houses, and holiday homes; further possibilities in the nearby towns of Trevi nel Lazio, Fiuggi, and Guarcino. In August, it is advisable to book in advance.
The village is located at an altitude of over 1,000 meters: bring a light jacket for the evenings, even in mid-summer. Comfortable shoes are recommended for the uphill historic center and for excursions in the Simbruini Mountains Park.
