About Epiphany Concert

Every January 5th, the Sala Polivalente in Salbertrand, in the upper Susa Valley, hosts the traditional Epiphany Concert: an evening of wind band music that bids farewell to the Christmas season and ushers the valley's residents into the New Year. On stage, the Banda Musicale Alta Valle Susa is joined by the Filarmonica Concordia di San Giorio di Susa for a free event highly anticipated by live music lovers.

A musical tradition of the upper Susa Valley

The Epiphany Concert is one of the most cherished winter events in Salbertrand, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin nestled in the upper Susa Valley, Piedmont. On the evening of January 5th, the municipal Sala Polivalente fills up to enjoy a wind band concert that ideally concludes the festive period and welcomes the arrival of the Befana.

The performers

The heart of the evening is the Banda Musicale Alta Valle Susa, a group that brings together musicians from the valley's villages and has been enlivening the Christmas festivities in the Upper Valley towns—from Bardonecchia to Oulx and Salbertrand—for years. They are accompanied by the Filarmonica Concordia di San Giorio di Susa: the meeting of these two ensembles offers a broad repertoire, ranging from traditional band music and Christmas carols to arrangements designed for audiences of all ages.

Alpine music and culture

The concert is part of the broader cultural landscape of the upper Susa Valley, a borderland with strong Occitan and Franco-Provençal roots. Over the years, the Salbertrand Epiphany Concert has opened the Chantar l'Uvèrn winter festival, dedicated to the Occitan, Franco-Provençal, and French languages and cultures, which involves dozens of local municipalities with a packed calendar of events from Epiphany to Easter.

An event for everyone

  • Live music evening with free admission
  • Municipal Sala Polivalente, in the center of Salbertrand
  • Two Susa Valley wind bands on the same stage
  • Warm and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for wrapping up the holidays

For those spending their winter holidays in the ski resorts of the upper valley, the Epiphany Concert is also an opportunity to discover the cultural life of the small towns in the Province of Turin and soak in the musical identity of this corner of Piedmont.
