About EnoEtna

EnoEtna is the historic food and wine festival of Santa Venerina, located on the slopes of Mount Etna in the province of Catania. Dedicated to the volcano's DOC wines, spirits, local products, and craftsmanship, the event was established in 1997. Every year, it brings together Etna wineries, masterclasses, guided tastings, concerts, and the famous National Barrel Race of the Wine Cities, a spectacular competition through the historic town center. A late-summer appointment celebrating the agricultural and cultural identity of the Etna region in Sicily.

EnoEtna, the wine of the volcano takes center stage in Santa Venerina

EnoEtna is the most important food and wine event in the municipality of Santa Venerina, a town on the eastern slopes of Mount Etna in the province of Catania, in the heart of Sicily's wine country. Established in 1997, the festival reached its 28th edition in 2025, confirming its status as a benchmark event for promoting Etna DOC wines and the agri-food excellence of this volcanic territory.

Etna wines and wineries

The heart of EnoEtna is the large tasting area set up at the Casa del Vino e del Vendemmiatore, where dozens of local wineries present their Etna Rosso and Etna Bianco DOC labels. Alongside the wines, visitors can find spirits, rosolios, artisanal liqueurs, and extra virgin olive oil, in a journey that tells the story of the richness of volcanic soils. Guided tastings and thematic masterclasses invite the public to discover native grape varieties such as Nerello Mascalese and Carricante.

The National Barrel Race

Among the most anticipated and spectacular events is the National Barrel Race of the Wine Cities: teams from various Italian cities compete by pushing large barrels along the steep streets of the historic center, in a test of strength and skill that draws large crowds. There is also the Mini Palio dedicated to children, making the event suitable for the whole family.

Music, culture, and tradition

EnoEtna is also about entertainment: every edition offers live concerts, performances, and entertainment in the town's squares, from Piazza Roma to Piazza Pappalardo. Show cooking with local hospitality and agricultural schools, art and photography exhibitions, book presentations, and workshops for children complete a rich and diverse program that intertwines food and wine, culture, and Sicilian folk traditions.

An identity-defining event for the Etna region

Organized by the Municipality of Santa Venerina, EnoEtna is much more than a food festival: it is a celebration of the identity of a territory where vine cultivation and winemaking are an integral part of its history and landscape. The event contributes to the promotion of Etna wine tourism and represents an opportunity for visitors and enthusiasts to discover the authentic flavors of the Sicilian Region and Europe's highest volcano.

EnoEtna — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of EnoEtna is expected, as per tradition, at the end of September in Santa Venerina. At the moment, the Municipality has not yet published the official dates or the program: the organization has announced that the detailed calendar will be released shortly. The great festival of Etna DOC wines will return with tastings, masterclasses, the National Barrel Race, and the side events that enliven the town center.

The 2026 edition of EnoEtna in Santa Venerina is currently being organized. The official dates and the 2026 program have not yet been announced by the Municipality, which has indicated that the calendar will be published soon. Consistent with the tradition of the event, it is expected to take place at the end of September and will re-propose the established formula: tastings of Etna DOC wines, thematic masterclasses, the National Barrel Race of the Wine Cities, concerts, and activities dedicated to local products. Information will be updated as soon as it becomes available.
