About Empoli fa Sport

Empoli fa Sport is the city's major sports festival, transforming the historic center of Empoli, in the province of Florence, into a vast open-air gym. For an entire afternoon, dozens of local sports clubs and associations take turns hosting exhibitions, demonstrations, and free trials open to everyone across various city squares and zones. This free, all-ages event is designed to let people discover and try out a wide range of disciplines in a single day—from skateboarding and martial arts to fencing, rugby, and more unique sports.

Empoli fa Sport: the city takes to the streets

Empoli fa Sport is a festival dedicated to movement and athletic disciplines, bringing the historic center of Empoli—in the heart of the lower Valdarno, in the province of Florence, Tuscany—to life. Promoted by the Municipality of Empoli through the Department of Sport, the event was born from a simple and infectious idea: to concentrate the extraordinary vitality of the local sports scene into a single day, bringing dozens of clubs out of their gyms and fields and into the city's streets and squares.

A massive open-air gym

During the event, the historic center transforms into a sprawling circuit of sport and fun. Various city areas host dozens of sports clubs that alternate between exhibitions, demonstrations, and free trials designed to actively involve the public. Children, teenagers, families, and curious visitors can try their hand at one discipline after another, guided by athletes and coaches, or simply watch the performances and demonstrations that continue throughout the afternoon.

Many disciplines to discover

The richness of Empoli fa Sport lies in its variety: from martial arts like judo, taekwondo, and self-defense to boxing, fencing, dance, cycling, and athletics, as well as basketball, tennis, rugby, baseball, volleyball, hockey, and more unusual sports like dodgeball, tchoukball, and bridge. Urban sports are also featured, with skateboard ramps installed at Parco Mariambini, alongside playful activities designed for younger participants.

  • Martial arts and combat sports: judo, taekwondo, boxing, self-defense
  • Team sports: rugby, basketball, volleyball, baseball, tchoukball, dodgeball

  • Urban sports: skateboarding with ramps at Parco Mariambini

A free event for the whole community

Empoli fa Sport is completely free and open to people of all ages, in the true spirit of a city festival. Thanks to the collaboration with sponsors, participants are offered a step-by-step circuit through the various zones: by trying at least one discipline in each area, visitors can complete the loop and receive a small souvenir gadget. The event is also a valuable opportunity for Empoli's sports clubs to showcase their activities ahead of the new season's registration period.

Sport, health, and civic identity

Included among the initiatives that make Empoli a child- and adolescent-friendly city, the festival combines health promotion, social interaction, and the enhancement of the historic center. For one day, the city's most beautiful squares—from Piazza Farinata degli Uberti to Piazza della Vittoria, from Piazza del Popolo to Parco Mariambini—become the stage for a community choosing to gather outdoors, rediscovering the pleasure of movement and the value of sport as a tool for intergenerational connection.
