The Mordano stops of the musical review that combines classical and contemporary
The Emilia Romagna Festival (ERF) is one of the longest-running and most prestigious music festivals in Emilia-Romagna. Founded in 2001 and directed by flautist Massimo Mercelli, the festival presents dozens of concerts every summer across the region's cities, villages, and artistic sites, from the Imola area to the Adriatic coast. In 2026, the festival reaches its 26th edition, featuring 57 concerts and a special preview, with over 600 artists from around the world, under the theme «Classical is Contemporary».
Among the municipalities hosting the event is Mordano, a small town in the Province of Bologna overlooking the Santerno river, on the border with Romagna. Here, ERF offers intimate and refined events designed to showcase the town's historic spaces: the central Piazza della Pace and the secluded Cloister of the Monastery of San Francesco, an ideal setting for evening concerts.
The strength of the Emilia Romagna Festival lies in its fusion of genres: classical and baroque music, contemporary pieces, jazz, and authorial contaminations coexist in the same program. In Mordano, this philosophy translates into evenings ranging from chamber piano to great film scores, and author jazz. It's a high-level cultural offering brought to a local scale, where the audience can listen to international caliber performers just a stone's throw from home.
Mordano is part of the Nuovo Circondario Imolese (New Imola District), within the Metropolitan City of Bologna, and has been a loyal host town for the festival for years. The Mordano dates are part of a broader circuit that includes nearby towns such as Imola, Castel San Pietro Terme, and Bagnara di Romagna, creating a widespread musical itinerary that invites exploration of the territory. For lovers of good music in intimate and authentic settings, the ERF evenings in Mordano are an unmissable event of the Emilia-Romagna summer.
The 2026 edition of the Emilia Romagna Festival is the 26th in the festival's history and takes place throughout the region from July 1 to September 12, under the artistic direction of Massimo Mercelli and the theme «Classical is Contemporary». In Mordano, two events are scheduled, both starting at 9:00 PM.
The Mordano evenings are part of the ERF Summer series and bring internationally renowned performers to the Bologna municipality in charming locations, from the main square to the monastic cloister.
