Every summer, the Parco dei Popoli in Castellarano, a municipality in the Province of Reggio Emilia in Emilia-Romagna, transforms into a large natural arena dedicated to electronic music. Electronic BBQ is a free-entry festival that, in the green space of over fifteen hectares crossed by the Secchia stream, brings together internationally renowned DJ sets, street food, and sports activities, attracting a young audience from all over the region.
The Birth: Benny Benassi and His Territory
The event was born in 2023 from a shared idea between Benny Benassi, a world-famous DJ and producer from Reggio, and Giorgio Zanni, mayor of Castellarano and president of the Province of Reggio Emilia. The objective has been clear from the start: to use electronic music to showcase the beauty and diversity of the Reggio territory, involving young and old and making the places and people protagonists. Benny Benassi personally oversees the artistic direction, with a particular focus on promoting young talent.
The Stages and the Music
The musical offering is spread across multiple stages that coexist in the same space. Over the years, the Main Stage, dedicated to electronic music headliners, the Riff Stage with disco, italo disco, and funk, the Yoki Stage, and a Live Stage open to other genres have featured.
Not Just Music: Sports and Street Food
Electronic BBQ is designed as a multidisciplinary celebration. Alongside the DJ booths, there are sports tournaments and outdoor activities: a basketball court, beach volleyball, padel, and a non-competitive color run. The culinary aspect is one of the event's hallmarks, with a selection of food trucks and Emilian street food offerings that the organizers like to call among the best in Italy.

Where it Takes Place

How to Get There
By car: Castellarano can be reached from the SS486 from the Modena Nord highway exit (A1) or from Reggio Emilia, along the pedemontana road. Ample parking is available near the park. By train: the nearest station is Reggio Emilia, then connected by intercity buses towards the ceramic district and Castellarano.
Entry and Services
Entry is free. Inside the park, there are bars, refreshment points, and food trucks. Comfortable clothing is recommended for sports activities and for dancing until late at night.
