The international catamaran regatta that opens the sailing season in Cesenatico
The Easter Sails Regatta is one of the most established sporting events in Cesenatico, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, in the heart of the Romagna Riviera. Founded in the mid-seventies, it has been the first test of the season for sailing enthusiasts, particularly for catamarans, for decades. Organized with passion by the Congrega Velisti Cesenatico, the event has become a symbol of the start of the tourist and sporting spring in Emilia-Romagna.
For three days, from Saturday to Easter Monday, the stretch of sea in front of the Ponente beach transforms into a racecourse. The boats race about half a mile from the coast, offering residents and tourists a spectacle of multicolored sails that can be admired comfortably from the promenade. The regatta is open to the main catamaran classes: Hobie Cat, Topcat, Tornado, and the Class A, the small and very fast single-handed boats considered among the most technical in dinghy sailing.
Cesenatico's regatta is not just a local event: every year it attracts dozens of crews not only from Italy but also from numerous European countries. Recent editions have seen sailors from Germany, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Spain, and even Canada, confirming the international prestige achieved by the event. For some classes, the regatta is part of continental circuits, attracting large fleets that choose the Adriatic to open their competitive season.
The Easter Sails is not just about competition: the Easter weekend in Cesenatico also comes alive with markets, cultural initiatives, and the typical festive atmosphere of the Riviera as it awakens. The regatta, with free admission, is designed to be enjoyed by everyone, including families, and is a perfect opportunity to discover the fishing village, its canal port designed by Leonardo da Vinci, and the renowned Maritime Museum.
For the many sailing enthusiasts and the curious, the Easter Sails Regatta remains the unmissable event to officially kick off the Adriatic summer.
The 2026 edition celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the Easter Sails Regatta, a historic milestone for the Congrega Velisti Cesenatico. From April 4th to 6th, the sea off Cesenatico was colored with dozens of boats, bringing together Italian and European crews for the traditional Easter weekend.
The regattas, divided by class, were held about half a mile from the coast, offering the public on the promenade the spectacle of multicolored sails that has opened the Romagna Riviera's sailing season for half a century.
Regattas divided by class (Hobie Cat, Topcat, Tornado, Class A) held from Saturday, April 4th to Monday, April 6th, with multiple races per day on a racecourse half a mile from Ponente beach. Final awards ceremony at the end of the races.
Cesenatico is reachable by car from the A14 motorway (Cesena or Rimini Nord exit) and by train on the Bologna-Ancona Adriatic line, Cesenatico station. The nearest airport is Federico Fellini Airport in Rimini.
The races take place about half a mile offshore and are visible for free from the promenade and the Ponente beach. Binoculars are recommended for better viewing of the maneuvers.
The event is free for the public. Registration for the regatta is reserved for crews through the Congrega Velisti Cesenatico.
