About Easter Sails

Every year, on Easter weekend, the sea off Cesenatico fills with colorful sails: it's the Easter Sails Regatta, an international event dedicated to catamarans that has marked the opening of the sailing season on the Romagna Riviera since the mid-seventies. Organized by the Congrega Velisti Cesenatico, it brings together crews from all over Italy and several European countries, with boats competing half a mile offshore, in a spectacle visible directly from the promenade. A free event that combines sport, tradition, and the charm of the Adriatic Sea in spring.

A Half-Century Sailing Tradition

The Easter Sails Regatta is one of the most established sporting events in Cesenatico, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, in the heart of the Romagna Riviera. Founded in the mid-seventies, it has been the first test of the season for sailing enthusiasts, particularly for catamarans, for decades. Organized with passion by the Congrega Velisti Cesenatico, the event has become a symbol of the start of the tourist and sporting spring in Emilia-Romagna.

The Catamaran Spectacle

For three days, from Saturday to Easter Monday, the stretch of sea in front of the Ponente beach transforms into a racecourse. The boats race about half a mile from the coast, offering residents and tourists a spectacle of multicolored sails that can be admired comfortably from the promenade. The regatta is open to the main catamaran classes: Hobie Cat, Topcat, Tornado, and the Class A, the small and very fast single-handed boats considered among the most technical in dinghy sailing.

An International Event

Cesenatico's regatta is not just a local event: every year it attracts dozens of crews not only from Italy but also from numerous European countries. Recent editions have seen sailors from Germany, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Spain, and even Canada, confirming the international prestige achieved by the event. For some classes, the regatta is part of continental circuits, attracting large fleets that choose the Adriatic to open their competitive season.

Sport, Sea, and Celebration in the City

The Easter Sails is not just about competition: the Easter weekend in Cesenatico also comes alive with markets, cultural initiatives, and the typical festive atmosphere of the Riviera as it awakens. The regatta, with free admission, is designed to be enjoyed by everyone, including families, and is a perfect opportunity to discover the fishing village, its canal port designed by Leonardo da Vinci, and the renowned Maritime Museum.
