The Don Cesare Trail
Since 2023, the Don Cesare Trail has been the mountain running race that transforms Borgo Valsugana (Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige) into a gathering point for hundreds of trail runners every spring. The start and finish lines are located in Piazza Degasperi, in the heart of the village, from where competitors set off toward the trails that climb the Rocchetta and overlook the stunning Val di Sella.
The Routes
The event offers two competitive tracks and a walk open to everyone:
- Long Route: approximately 25 km with 1,500 meters of elevation gain, for the most experienced athletes;
- Short Route: approximately 10 km with 400 meters of elevation gain, more accessible but still challenging;
- Giro della Rocchetta: a non-competitive walk of about 10 km with 400 meters of elevation gain, suitable for families and hiking enthusiasts.
Starts are scheduled for the morning, with bib collection in the early hours and the awards ceremony in the early afternoon, accompanied by a pasta party under the marquee.
Dedicated to Don Cesare Refatti
The race is named after Don Cesare Refatti (1871-1948), a priest from the Valsugana valley, educator, and a great enthusiast of the mountains and photography. A historic trail that climbs the Moggio stream gorge, built by volunteers from the local S.A.T. section, is also dedicated to him; it is the path the priest used to take from Olle toward Val di Sella to celebrate mass. The trail pays homage to this figure by retracing parts of his path.
A Local Event
Organized by the Polisportiva Dilettantistica Borgo Flavio Moranduzzo in partnership with the Trentino Lagorai Team, with the collaboration of the CSI and the patronage of the Municipality of Borgo Valsugana, the Don Cesare Trail has become a staple in the Trentino mountain running calendar, often opening the season for the Trentino Mountain Cup circuit. Beyond the sporting challenge, the day is an opportunity to experience the Valsugana region, discover its trails, and support the local community.

2026 Edition
The fourth edition of the Don Cesare Trail was held on Sunday, May 24, 2026, in Borgo Valsugana, Trentino. The race featured the well-established format with start and finish in Piazza Degasperi.
- Long route: approx. 25 km with 1,500m of elevation gain;
- Short route: approx. 10 km with 400m of elevation gain;
- Giro della Rocchetta: non-competitive walk of approx. 10 km, open to all.
The event, organized by the Polisportiva Dilettantistica Borgo Flavio Moranduzzo with the Trentino Lagorai Team, kicked off the Trentino mountain running season.

Getting There
Borgo Valsugana can be reached by car via the SS47 Valsugana highway (Borgo Ovest/Est exit) and by train on the Trento-Venice line, getting off at the Borgo Valsugana Est or Centro stations. The start and finish are in Piazza Degasperi, in the town center.

Tips
Bring trail gear suitable for mountain terrain and the weather conditions of late May. The Giro della Rocchetta walk is also suitable for families with children.
