Trail running and skyrace in the Val di Fassa Dolomites
The DoloMyths Run is among the most prestigious and long-standing mountain running events in Italy. Every July, it transforms Canazei, in the heart of the Val di Fassa in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), into the capital of high-altitude trail running. The meeting point and start for all races are located in Piazza G. Marconi, in the town center, at the foot of the spires of the Sella and Sassolungo groups.
The event spans two days and offers three distances designed for athletes of different levels:
The beating heart of the event is the Skyrace, one of the most famous skyrunning courses in the world. From the square in Canazei, competitors face a long climb to the Forcella Pordoi and the summit of Piz Boè, at 3,152 meters, before the dizzying descent along the Val Lastiès. It is a technical and demanding course in a high-mountain environment that combines extreme physical effort with breathtaking views among the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.
The DoloMyths Run attracts the best trail and skyrunning athletes in the world and represents a major highlight on the international calendar. Each edition sees over a thousand athletes from dozens of different nations at the starting line, a testament to the prestige achieved by the race organized by the DoloMyths Run Organizing Committee of Canazei.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the event is an extraordinary showcase for the Municipality of Canazei and the entire Val di Fassa, promoting the local Ladin culture, mountain hospitality, and one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in the Alps. For fans and spectators alike, the DoloMyths Run weekend is also an opportunity to experience the festive atmosphere of the town and admire the athletes' efforts on the Dolomite trails up close.
The 28th edition of the DoloMyths Run will be held in Canazei over the weekend of July 11 and 12, 2026. On Saturday, July 11, the 12K Trail (approx. 800 m elevation gain) and the 42K Fassa Trail (over 2,200 m elevation gain, ten-hour time limit) will kick off from Piazza G. Marconi, both starting in the morning.
On Sunday, July 12, at 8:15 AM, the DoloMyths Run Skyrace will start: 22 kilometers and 1,750 meters of elevation gain along the famous course that climbs to Forcella Pordoi and Piz Boè (3,152 m) before descending into Val Lastiès. The race is limited to a fixed number of competitors and confirms its status as a legendary event in international skyrunning.
Canazei can be reached by car from the A22 Brenner motorway (exit at Egna/Ora or Bolzano Nord) by driving up the Val di Fassa along the SS48 Dolomite road. The nearest train station is Ora/Auer, which is connected to the valley by regular bus services.
Registration for the races is done online via the official website dolomythsrun.it. The Skyrace and other events have a limited number of entries: it is recommended to register well in advance.
As these are high-altitude races, appropriate mountain equipment is essential. Canazei offers numerous accommodation options; it is advisable to book your stay well in advance for the race weekend.
