Classical music, jazz, and literature at the Grand Hotel Cultural Centre in Toblach
The Dolomites Festival is one of the most refined musical events in South Tyrol, hosted at the Grand Hotel Cultural Centre in Toblach, in the province of Bolzano. Founded in 2010, the festival has established itself over the years as a brilliant cultural highlight, attracting passionate audiences from across the region and beyond. The heart of the event is the Gustav-Mahler-Saal, a concert hall with extraordinary acoustics located within the historic Grand Hotel, now the seat of the Upper Puster Valley Cultural Centre.
The artistic direction, led by Christoph Bösch and Josef Feichter, offers a deliberately eclectic programme: classical music, chamber and orchestral works sit alongside jazz, crossover, and literature in a continuous dialogue between tradition and modernity. Over the years, the stage of the Gustav-Mahler-Saal has hosted internationally renowned soloists, string quartets, chamber orchestras, jazz ensembles, and emerging young talents, all within a setting that prioritises quality and sonic exploration.
Toblach, located in the Three Peaks/Drei Zinnen area, has always been a land of music: it was here that Gustav Mahler composed some of his most famous works during his summer retreats. The Dolomites Festival embraces this legacy and carries it forward, bringing great music into a natural environment of rare beauty, where the listening experience merges with the scenery of the Dolomite mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
After numerous summer editions, in 2026 the festival moved to spring for the first time, enriching the cultural life of the Puster Valley in March. Each edition is built around a theme that guides the programming, offering the public a coherent journey through symphonic concerts, jazz evenings, literary encounters, and moments dedicated to young local musicians.
From March 14 to 28, 2026, for the first time in spring, the Dolomites Festival animated the Gustav-Mahler-Saal of the Grand Hotel Cultural Centre in Toblach. The edition, titled «Glücksfälle», spanned classical music, crossover, literature, and jazz.
Key highlights included: the opening on March 14 with the Epoque Quartet blending crossover and world music; the orchestral evening on March 15 with the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, violinist Veronika Eberle, and conductor Hossein Pishkar (Beethoven and Mendelssohn); the concert of the winners of «Prima la musica 2026» on March 18; the encounter between literature and music on March 21; the Landesjugendorchester Südtirol (South Tyrolean Youth Orchestra) with Benjamin Schmid on March 22; and the grand jazz finale on March 27-28 with guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel, the K.K_Klang-Kabinett, and the Sweet Alps Orchestra.
Toblach can be reached by train along the Puster Valley line (Toblach station) or by car via the SS49 road. The Grand Hotel Cultural Centre is located in New Toblach.
