The great summer nights of Gela in Macchitella
Disco Village has become one of the signature events of the summer in Gela, in the province of Caltanissetta, in the heart of southern Sicily. Born as a large "open-air disco," it has evolved over the years into a true cultural hub that brings together live music, concerts, DJ sets, cabaret, and entertainment shows. The formula is simple and successful: four nights, six hours of entertainment each, for a total of twenty-four hours of festivities spread across the first two weekends of August.
The heart of the event is the square of Piazza Suor Teresa Valsè, next to the "Kiosketto" in the seaside district of Macchitella, one of the most popular areas of the Gela coastline on summer evenings. The choice of this space is no coincidence: the square, overlooking the coast, becomes a large open-air dance floor capable of hosting thousands of people in a festive, family-friendly setting.
Disco Village is designed as an inclusive and cross-generational event: it caters to families, adults and children, young people, and anyone simply looking for an evening of music and fun. Free admission makes it one of the most democratic and well-attended events on the city's summer calendar, attracting audiences from outside the province and even the region.
Promoted over the years by local entities such as Radio Gela Express and Il Gazzettino di Gela, and carried forward by the Associazione Timagora, Disco Village has progressively established itself not only as the highlight of the Gela summer but as one of the most recognizable fixtures of the Sicilian summer scene. The combination of music, urban space revitalization, and positive impact on the local economy has created a consolidated format that attracts a large and diverse crowd every year.
In 2026, Disco Village reaches its fifteenth edition, confirming itself as one of the flagship events of the summer in Gela (CL) and the Sicilian summer scene. The project was presented by the Associazione Timagora as part of the "Gela Med 2026" call for proposals.
The format takes up and expands upon that of previous editions: four nights spread over the first two weekends of August, with six hours of entertainment for each appointment, for a total of twenty-four hours of fun including live music, concerts, DJ sets, cabaret, performances, and animation. The setting remains Piazza Suor Teresa Valsè, in the seaside district of Macchitella.
At the time of the project's presentation, the precise dates and the artistic cast of the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced.
The detailed program and line-up for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced. The event is confirmed for the first two weekends of August, with four nights of six hours each featuring concerts, DJ sets, cabaret, and entertainment, following the model of previous editions. Guests and schedules will be communicated by the organization in the weeks leading up to the event.
