The Christmas market in the pedestrian zone of Schlanders, in the Vinschgau Valley
In the heart of the Vinschgau Valley, within the municipality of Schlanders (Silandro) in the province of Bolzano, the Weihnachtsmarkt brings the unmistakable atmosphere of the South Tyrolean Advent to the pedestrian zone every year. For an entire weekend in December, the Hauptstraße (Main Street) fills with wooden huts, warm lights, and the scent of spices and mulled wine, turning the town center into a cozy, family-friendly Christmas village.
The market is born from the collaboration between hobbyists and artisans from the Vinschgau Valley and producers from across Italy. The stalls offer handmade gift ideas, traditional crafts, Christmas decorations, and local gastronomic specialties. It is the perfect opportunity to do your Christmas shopping while supporting small local artisans, featuring everything from woodwork and textiles to ceramics and typical South Tyrolean delicacies.
The charm of the Schlanders Weihnachtsmarkt also lies in its entertainment. Among the most striking attractions is the Spielvolk, luminous stilt-walking figures whose imaginative performances bring the magic of Christmas directly into the town's alleys, enchanting both adults and children. The program also includes a creative workshop, fairy tale readings at the Damml, and a Christmas treasure hunt with illustrations scattered throughout the town, with prizes awarded in the town square during the market weekend.
During the market, shops in Schlanders remain open both Saturday and Sunday, morning and afternoon, offering visitors a complete Christmas shopping experience. Christmas melodies, lights, and the backdrop of the pedestrian zone create an intimate and welcoming atmosphere, typical of South Tyrolean Christmas markets. During the weeks of Advent, the event is part of a broader calendar of Christmas festivities in the town, which also includes the Kinderadvent dedicated to children.
Schlanders is the main town of the Vinschgau Valley, a sunny alpine valley rich in traditions in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Visiting the Weihnachtsmarkt also means discovering a mountain territory with a strong bilingual character, where Tyrolean and Italian cultures coexist. The market is a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the South Tyrolean pre-Christmas atmosphere, surrounded by local crafts, flavors, and traditions.
For the 2026 edition, the Schlanders (Silandro) Weihnachtsmarkt returns to the pedestrian zone on December 13 and 14. Stalls featuring artisans and producers from the Vinschgau Valley and across Italy will offer handmade gift ideas, traditional crafts, and typical South Tyrolean products.
Among the scheduled attractions is the Spielvolk, the luminous stilt-walking figures, along with a creative workshop, fairy tale readings at the Damml, and a Christmas treasure hunt (starting December 9) with prizes awarded in the town square. Shops in Schlanders will remain open on Saturday and Sunday, morning and afternoon.
