A festive trail through the artisan nativity scenes of Val di Rabbi

In the heart of the Trentino Dolomites, the Municipality of Rabbi (Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige region) welcomes The Valley of Nativity Scenes every winter, a Christmas trail that turns the entire Val di Rabbi into one large, widespread nativity scene. During Advent and the holidays, the valley's hamlets come alive with artisan nativity scenes displayed in front of houses, in squares, by fountains, and even inside ancient dairies and traditional mountain farm cellars.
The hallmark of the event is the life-sized figures, crafted by local artisans and artists, which depict the old trades of alpine rural life: woodcutting, water gathering, shoemaking, and shepherding. Walking through the hamlets at sunset, when all the nativity lights turn on, makes the experience even more magical and evocative.
At the San Bernardo Information Office, visitors can pick up a nativity scene map: by completing the trail and collecting the numbered stickers, you can receive a Val di Rabbi branded souvenir. It is a fun way to involve both adults and children in discovering all the displays scattered throughout the valley.
The nerve center of the event is the hamlet of San Bernardo, where Santa's House is set up in the church square, open to the public until Epiphany. In recent years, Val di Rabbi has enriched the program with Christmas markets, hosted in various hamlets of the valley featuring local products, handcrafted Christmas decorations, traditional delicacies, carols, sweets, and mulled wine, as well as workshops dedicated to children.
The Valley of Nativity Scenes is one of the most beloved Christmas experiences in Val di Sole, appreciated by families and hikers for its authentic atmosphere and its connection to traditional Trentino folk customs. The backdrop of the Stelvio National Park, which embraces Val di Rabbi, adds charm to a trail that combines nativity art, farming culture, and winter landscapes.
Thanks to the participation of the entire community, each edition tells the story of the valley's identity through the shared work of its inhabitants. The Valley of Nativity Scenes is not just an exhibition, but a collective tale of mountain Christmas, capable of conveying the warmth of alpine traditions and the authentic spirit of Trentino.
The 2026-2027 edition of The Valley of Nativity Scenes in Rabbi does not yet have official dates published. Based on the tradition of previous years, the nativity scene trail through the hamlets of Val di Rabbi is held during the Christmas period, concluding at Epiphany. It is recommended to check the official website valdirabbi.com and the APT Val di Sole channels for updated dates and programs.
Val di Rabbi can be reached by car from the SS42 Tonale road, exiting towards Malé, then continuing along the valley to the hamlets of Pracorno, Piazzola, San Bernardo, and Rabbi Fonti. By train, the reference station is Malé (Trentino Trasporti - Trento-Malé Railway), followed by bus connections to Val di Rabbi.
